No prizes for guessing where Thursday's Lucky 15 Tips are coming from - as it's day one of the Betfred St Leger Festival meeting from Doncaster.

On Saturday it's the world's oldest Classic, the Betfred St Leger, but in the meantime let's enjoy the first of four fabulous days of celebration. We're dripping with good winners in recent days so here's hoping for more of the same on Town Moor. The action kicks in at 13:50.

Today's Horse Races

14:25 - Camille Pissarro @ 9/4

Aidan O'Brien loves this meeting and he sends his two-year-old Wootton Bassett colt for this stakes contest.

There's the small matter of £192k to the winner - and Group 2 Gimcrack sixth Camille Pissarro looks to put that slightly disappointing run at York behind him. That was 6f, and he gets an extra half-furlong today.

Everything to me in his races to date shouts that a small step up in trip is essential, and in truth I'd be happier if this was 7f. However, with the possibility of slightly slower autumn ground now prevailing, I'm hopeful this will prove to be ideal.

His sire took this very race in 2010 - 'staying on strongly in the last 75 yards.' He was a tremendous two-year-old champion, with his career highlight the Group 1 Grand Criterium (7f), and I'm hoping the apple's not fallen far from the tree. He wasn't a world-beater at three, but as a juvenile - awesome.

Since taking a Navan maiden in the spring Aidan's charge has been very highly tried and this is undoubtedly a more straightforward task. The brilliant Ryan Moore is in the plate, and the colt is entered up all over the place - including here, for the one-mile Futurity in October.

15:00 - Flight @ 9/2

Another two-year-old, and a massive improver taking a huge step up in class.

Flight has had three spins to date, showing progressive form, culminating in an authoritative maiden success at Sandown 12 days ago over 7f. The daughter of Siyouni is trained at Manton by Ollie Sangster, and will be ridden by Oisin Murphy, as she was in Esher.

To give an indication as to the regard she's held in at home, the other two jockeys to have sat on her on a racetrack are W Buick and RL Moore.

They are claimed here by Charlie Appleby and Aidan O'Brien respectively, and Oisin is an excellent, comparable choice for what will be a severe test.

She has no fancy entries yet, but all that could change dramatically at soon after three-o-clock on Thursday afternoon.

15:35 - Mistral Star @ 5/1

A Group 2 test for three-year-old fillies over the exacting St Leger trip of 1m 6½f.

Mistral Star has been competing in some very tough contests of late, including last time in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks (1m 4f) three weeks ago. Will Buick rode then, and does so once again on Thursday afternoon.

She was a respectable fourth on the Knavesmire behind Content, and for me deserves to take one of these, laying down a solid body of work of late. Finishing with purpose at York, I believe she'll appreciate the additional yardage.

Interestingly she's by the great Frankel who wasn't tried beyond the Juddmonte/Champion Stakes trips of 10f+ but she's out of a Shirocco dam, and he got a mile-and-a-half very strongly. Fabulous race.

16:10 - Fox Legacy @ 11/2

Sir Michael Stoute has announced that this year will be his last in the training ranks, so any decent wins from now on will carry added poignancy.

His Fox Legacy is in this Class 2 handicap after dotting up by a street in a lower grade at Salisbury four weeks ago. Old compadre Ryan Moore, the man who calls SMS 'the boss,' was on board then, and retains the ride here.

'Fox' now races off a revised mark of 93 - up from 77 last time. Enormous leap then, but his performance at this 10f trip was eye-catching to say the least (pushed out - won by 12l).

The son of Lope De Vega races in the King Power colours and can remind us of the enduring brilliance of the Barbadian British handler whose first success was over 50 years ago.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £370 for your total £7.50 stake.
