Lucky 15 generic

Plenty of racing action across Sunday to keep punters entertained as jumps cards come from Chepstow, Exeter and Navan.

There is a decent dash of quality to enjoy, with a brace of Grade 2s at Navan including the Boyne Hurdle, while there are three Listed races, including the Agatha Christie Mares' Novices' Chase at Exeter. I've put together my Lucky 15 tips for Sunday's racing, which you can see below.

Lucky 15 Tips - Sunday, February 9

  • 13:50 Chepstow – As Legends Have It @ 9/4
  • 14:00 Exeter – Fun Fun Fun @ 1/1
  • 14:30 Exeter – Alexei @ 4/1
  • 14:40 Navan – Farren Glory @ 8/1

13:50 Chepstow – As Legends Have It @ 9/4

This is a maiden hurdle that Captain Bellamy will bid to atone, having finished first past the post before being disqualified at Newbury in December. He has claims, as does Shades Of Winter, but preference is for AS LEGENDS HAVE IT for an in-form Ben Pauling team.

The Jack Hobbs gelding was second behind subsequent Listed winner Califet En Vol at Kempton over 2m5f in November and was unfortunate when tussling with another useful sort in George's Lad at Doncaster (2m3½f, good to soft) last month.

In both races, he has perhaps been guilty of doing too much on the front end at various times. If Ben Jones can get him to settle, this race looks to be within his compass.

14:00 Exeter – Fun Fun Fun @ 1/1

Fresh from excellent weekends at the Dublin Racing Festival, Willie Mullins and Gavin Cromwell are supplying the leading protagonists for this Listed Agatha Christie Mares' Novices' Chase at Exeter and it is FUN FUN FUN for the champion trainer that looks the way to go.

She coasted to a debut success over fences at Naas (2m4f, soft) last month, jumping well and lifting the tempo as she pleased to go clear. A Grade 3-winning hurdler last season, she may move on to better things over these obstacles.

Only By Night for Cromwell is 2-2 over fences, including a Grade 2 at Cork (2m½f, yielding) in December but that ensures she carries a 5lb penalty here against a smart rival.

14:00 Exeter - Winner Fun Fun Fun

14:30 Exeter – Alexei @ 4/1

The second of the Listed events at Exeter is the trustatrader.com Novices' Hurdle over an extended two miles and it will see Regent's Stroll bidding to get back on track after finishing fourth when favourite in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury in December.

Paul Nicholls' charge will be popular but he was well held that day, even allowing for the winner, The New Lion, being a smart sort.

There are dangers here including the promising German Flat-bred ALEXEI for Joe Tizzard. He has notched successive hurdles wins at Taunton (2m½f & 2m3f) already and could be destined for better things if handling this slower surface.

14:40 Navan – Farren Glory @ 8/1

The Boyne Hurdle is often a muddling Grade 2 and so it proves here with former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo joining a few others such as Riviere D'etel and Busselton for whom chasing has been the discipline of choice lately.

Thedevilscoachman was second in the John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park on Thyestes Day last month and is perhaps the form pick as such.

He is getting 9lb from FARREN GLORY but it might be worth siding with the Gordon Elliott inmate. A Grade 1-winning novice over timber last season, he hasn't looked a natural over fences despite winning a Beginners' event at Naas in November. Sam Ewing's partner is worth sticking with against more exposed rivals now he reverts back to the smaller obstacles.

14:40 Navan - Winner Farren Glory

Odds correct at time of publishing.
