Lucky 15 Tips: Four to watch on Sunday

There are four race meetings down for decision in Britain and Ireland on Sunday, with cards at Ascot, Doncaster, Downpatrick and Leopardstown.

We've picked out a Lucky 15 offering with a best bet from each of those tracks on an interesting day.

14:35 Leopardstown - Hazdann @ 6/1

It’s impossible to argue with Breeders’ Cup protagonists Arizona Blaze and Henri Matisse being the most interesting runners in Leopardstown’s Group 3 Red Rocks Stakes, but the former is unproven over this 7f distance and the latter could be ring rusty.

The value play is Hazdann. The son of Night Of Thunder got no run when ninth on his debut at Gowran Park, but his rider looked after him and he took a major leap forward when capturing a red-hot Curragh maiden next time.

Hazdann beat a load of good horses there. Among them were Beresford winner Green Impact, Richmond scorer Black Forza, Goffs Million victor Apples And Bananas, plus four other winners of maidens or handicaps.

Dermot Weld does superbly with this sort of slow-maturing type and he should improve plenty.

16:05 Downpatrick - Dunboyne @ 6/1

Dunboyne roared back to form with a hurdles strike at odds of 66-1 on his first start for Ian Donoghue last time and can follow up in the Ulster National now he’s recaptured his old spark.

A smart staying handicap chaser for Gordon Elliott two seasons ago, Dunboyne was sent off favourite for the Thyestes Chase last January, but seemed to fall out of love with the game after struggling in big-field handicap chases for the rest of the year.

A break, a switch to hurdles and new surroundings did the selection the world of good though and a greater test of stamina can only help.

If his jumping holds up back over fences, he’ll be bang there if turning up in the same form.

16:15 Doncaster - Magico @ 9/4

Marco Botti’s horses are in good nick and Magico, who returned with an encouraging effort at Chelmsford this month, merits close inspection in the 1m2f handicap at Doncaster.

Ultra-strong in the market when backed into favouritism on his comeback, Magico arrived fast and late from an unpromising position to almost reel in a well-ridden winner who controlled matters up front.

That’s the second time Magico has been a shade unfortunate in recent times as he fared best of the held-up runners in a muddling contest behind Grey Cuban here in September.

His mark appeals as a winnable one and first-time cheekpieces can help him get over the line.

16:30 Ascot - Deise Aba @ 14/1

The veterans’ handicap chase at Ascot is a cracker and Deise Aba is taken to roll back the years for Alexandra Dunn.

This will be Deise Aba’s first start at Ascot since 2019, but the course should hold no fears as all his best form is at Sandown, another right-handed track with a stiff finish.

The feeling is he has been targeted at this from some way out by his connections. He arrives fresh from a 93-day break, having produced his best performance for this team first time out and off this mark on a sound surface at Wincanton in October.

On that form he holds the reopposing Credo, who will be 8lb worse at the weights. The pair shouldn’t be too far away from each other in the market.
