Lucky 15 Tips: Lynas can point the way at Pontefract

There are two high-quality meetings in Britain on Sunday as we prepare for the Goodwood and Galway festivals next week.

It is a mix of Flat and jumps action on the cards, but both the fixtures at Pontefract and Uttoxeter contain valuable races of serious interest to punters. Read on for my Lucky 15 for Sunday.

14:55 Pontefract - Point Lynas @ 6/4

Pontefract is renowned for being a front-runners’ track and it’s hard to see past the pacesetting POINT LYNAS, who made all for an emphatic success in this race 12 months ago.

He has taken those tactics to the extreme on his last two starts, building up lengthy leads before being overtaken late on, but those have come in better races and at courses where that approach isn’t as successful.

His close second in the Group 2 Summer Mile last time is the best recent bit of form on offer in this field and he should prove hard to peg back with his sights lowered under the returning Callum Rodriguez, who was aboard for last year’s win.

15:07 Uttoxeter - Young Buster @ 7/2

Most of the runners in this race have been going all summer, when the form tends to be weaker over jumps. YOUNG BUSTER is an exception, he was last seen in April beating spring horses, and that makes him attractive here.

Young Buster was second in a good race at Ayr last May and found his campaign a bit stop-start after. However, after another break he turned up at Kempton in April and won by 24 lengths from Flegmatik.

Up only 4lb for that win and freshened up again, Young Buster has good form behind him and deserves to be taken seriously with Jonathan Burke up.

15:25 Pontefract - Time Tells All @ 7/2

TIME TELLS ALL was an impressive winner at Beverley last time and has every chance of following up in the 1m2f handicap at Pontefract.

The time was strong for the grade and the only horse to run since, the well-beaten third Berkshire Phantom, won on his next outing at Redcar.

A 6lb rise for Time Tells All's three-length victory looks more than fair and Beverley is a similarly stiff track.

Such a test over ten furlongs clearly suits the well-bred son of Sea The Stars, a half-brother to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Homeless Songs who is ready for this step up in class.

16:25 Pontefract - Spirit of Applause @ 8/1

This was the time of year when SPIRIT OF APPLAUSE took off in 2024 and he could be set to do so again when drawn in the perfect spot to attack at Pontefract.

The five-year-old won at Beverley, which like Pontefract has a stiff finish, last August and then at another stiff track (Newcastle) later in the year.

He has yet to win in 2025, but showed real promise at Redcar and Nottingham before his last start, where he was bumped at the start and never figured at York.

He is down to a mark of 72 and is in stall one. Pontefract is a front-runner's track with a bias to the inner stalls over sprint trips and Spirit of Applause can make the most of that.
