Lucky 15 generic

Jumps action dominates the racing agenda on Sunday, with cards from Listowel and Plumpton joined by a sole Flat offering from Hamilton.

My Lucky 15 tips involves at least one selection from all three meetings.

Lucky 15 Tips - Sunday, September 22

  • 14:00 Listowel - Zaynab @ 13/8
  • 15:42 Hamilton - Midnight Affair @ 8/1
  • 15:50 Plumpton - Aucunrisque @ 7/2
  • 16:30 Listowel - Je T'Ai Porte @ 11/2

14:00 Listowel - Zaynab @ 13/8

Gordon Elliott usually sends a good one to this 3-Y-O Hurdle that opens the card at Listowel on Sunday. He's won three of the last six renewals, including last year's with the unbeaten Wodhooh, whose following four victories included a couple of Listed triumphs.

He relies on ZAYNAB this time, who certainly looks the part on paper.

The Phoenix Of Spain filly is a half-sister to highly-rated stablemate Zanahiyr - and the once-raced Zariygann who bolted up by 19 lengths on his hurdling debut - and she reached a mark of 88 on the flat after just three starts.

Bective Stud's €82k (£69k) purchase receives stacks of weight from Teriferma, who looks vulnerable under a double penalty, and if she's even nearly as good as some of those Elliott has sent to this race in recent years, she ought to have no problem beating him and the other nine rivals.

15:42 Hamilton - Midnight Affair @ 8/1

This six-furlong handicap can go to MIDNIGHT AFFAIR, who drops in class off a career-low mark.

Richard Fahey's three-year-old Dark Angel filly was awarded a lofty rating of 88 after the first three runs of her career, which clearly overestimated her ability for it took five subsequent defeats before she was competitive in races again.

However, since her mark has dropped to the low 80s, she's been fairly consistent - and having gone close in a more competitive race off a pound higher last time out, she finally looks ready to strike.

Today's Horse Races

15:50 Plumpton - Aucunrisque @ 7/2

Per Google, AUCUNRISQUE translates to "no risk" in French. That's ironic, given how Chris Gordon's eight-year-old's career has gone of late.

Since winning the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in February last year, he's 0-9 and his mark has dropped from 147 all the way down to 130.

I suspect he initially struggled with the nine-pound rise in classier company, while last season started adequately but fell apart when he started to encounter soft ground and further than two miles for the first time.

Excuses for his most recent efforts at Plumpton and Chepstow in March and April respectively are thin on the ground, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt as they came after a long season.

He's worth giving one more chance after a 149-day break in what rates a modest affair.

16:30 Listowel - Je T'Ai Porte @ 11/2

Last but not least, I'm including Gavin Cromwell's JE T'AI PORTE who goes in the penultimate race at Listowel - a handicap chase over an extended 2m1f.

The six-year-old is a hardy mare who's done plenty of racing on the flat, over hurdles and most recently over fences.

She's still relatively unexposed in the latter discipline and the daughter of Footstepsinthestand has made huge progress this summer, rising from a mark of 118 to 135 courtesy of two wins and two seconds over the bigger obstacles.

Her most recent effort behind Henry de Bromhead's 152-rated Dancing On My Own, who was giving just two pounds, was a clear career-best and I'm surprised the selection's rating hasn't changed as a result.

She's a sound jumper in the main who can be difficult to catch in front, which ought to apply even more at this tight track.

As a guide, a £0.50p Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the quoted prices and assuming all four won, would return around £822 for your total £7.50 stake.
