Lucky 15 Tips: McConnell to make his journey worthwhile

With three British meetings taking place across Sunday, there's racing action to cater for all tastes. Amongst it will be a jumps card from Hexham, where they have six races from 14:18-17:00 on ground forecast to be 'Good-good to soft in places'.

I've picked out four to follow at the Northumberland venue, including Irish raider Fortune The Brave, who will find this handicap much easier than the assignments he has faced of late. Read below for my Lucky 15 Tips for Sunday, June 22.

Horse Racing Odds

14:18 - Blended Stealth @ 11/1

An interesting 2m handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys to get the card underway at Hexham, and the former Alan King horse Dickens is of interest, having his first start for Jennie Candlish. He has to be respected.

Nonetheless, it's Lizzie Quinlan's BLENDED STEALTH who appeals most down near the foot of the weights. He tends to run in snatches, but has a liking for this course and distance, proven when bolting up here on his penultimate start last month off 75.

The eight-year-old had the reopposing Allbetsoff behind in second on that occasion and should confirm that form again. He wasn't as good over course and distance when last seen when running in snatches again off a mark of 80, but he's better than that.

14:48 - Scots Poet @ 9/2

At just shy of two miles, the next handicap chase sees just four runners go to post, and it's Ewan Whillans' SCOTS POET who can come out on top in the hands of Conor O'Farrell.

The bumper and four-time winning hurdler is yet to win over larger obstacles, but he placed over this course and distance twice in his last three outings, including when runner-up here in May. He was below par here last time, but has a great chance here.

15:18 - Fortune The Brave @ 6/4

John McConnell has an incredible 41 per cent strike-rate at Hexham in the last five seasons, and it has to be significant that he sends just one horse to the track on Sunday in the form of the unexposed FORTUNE THE BRAVE.

The five-year-old won a Kilbeggan bumper last September and, although he didn't show much in three maiden hurdles, he was fairly well supported for his handicap debut at Punchestown 15 days ago.

He didn't get past the first hurdle, so we didn't get to see what he was capable of, but this is a much calmer contest, and he might be well up to the job.

16:25 - High Moon @ 4/1

Brian Hughes gets the leg up on HIGH MOON again for Rebecca Menzies, and he can go one better than his remote Cartmel second last time in a 0-130 last month.

He was no match for the winner on the day, but dropping into 0-110 company, he has a golden chance.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
