Lucky 15 generic

There’s some top-quality Flat racing to get stuck into on Sunday afternoon including some Pattern action at Naas.

In Britain, there are some competitive cards on the level from Ripon and Newmarket and we have picked out four selections for an each-way Lucky15, with our picks coming on either side of the Irish Sea this Sunday afternoon.

Lucky 15 Tips - Sunday, May 18

14:10 Ripon - Thornaby Pearl @ 9/2

Not all horses handle the undulations at Ripon but one we know does is Thornaby Pearl. Two of his four wins have come at this venue and he ran an absolute cracker in last season’s Silver Trophy over six furlongs.

He’s also proven that he’s got the speed for the minimum trip, as seen when winning at Doncaster on last season’s reappearance, which enhanced his record when fresh.

Thornaby Pearl may be able to see his rivals off from the front in this race given that there’s only one other front runner who has a bad draw in stall one on the wing.

The yard is also in form and he looks like the each-way value in the race.

14:32 Naas -  Copacabana Sands @ 6/1

The first Pattern race on Naas’ card this Sunday is a seven furlong Listed race and there isn’t much to split the field on form.

However, there’s a suspicion that we’re yet to see the best of Michael O’Callaghan’s filly, Copacabana Sands.

This daughter of Sands Of Mali bears the markings of a seven-furlong specialist and she was only beaten a length in a valuable sales race over this course and distance as a juvenile when sent off at 28/1.

She then went close to defying a hefty absence when only beaten roughly a length in a fillies’ maiden at the Curragh. She was just found out for fitness that day, as she was run down in the closing stages.

It was an even better effort at Leopardstown last month when fifth in a Group 3 contest and that’s an effort worth marking up given that she met interference in the run that day.

That was just her second start for her talented new trainer so it’s fair to say that there should be more to come and she gets weight from all but one of her rivals in this contest.

Expect her to be firmly in the mix with a handy draw in stall three and the talented Jamie Powell in the saddle.

15:10 Ripon - Etretat @ 9/1

Etretat was unsuited by a step up in trip at Mussleburgh last month but gave the firm impression he was back in form when beaten by just a length on his start prior at Lingfield.

He’s now just 1lb above his last winning handicap mark and has the advantage of promising young rider Archie Young’s 5lb claim here.

All his wins have come on turf but he’s run well without winning on this sort of ground plenty of times and he can outrun his odds.

16:15 Newmarket - Sanat @ 5/1

Sanat has come in for some very lenient treatment from the assessor after winning at Nottingham last week.

Connections must have been pleased with just a 2lb rise for that success, where he was good value for the winning margin, and he’s still lightly raced, having just his seventh start on turf and sixth start for Mick Appleby, a trainer that excels with his sprinters.

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £XX for your total £7.50 stake.
