Lucky 15 Tips: Four to follow on Sunday

It’s a mixture of Flat and jumps racing in Britain on Sunday, with three meetings to get stuck into.

The Flat action comes on the all-weather at Southwell, while there is also afternoon jumping at Perth and Stratford. Below are my Lucky15 selections for Sunday’s fare.

15:17 Stratford - Getthepot @ 13/8

The 2m6½f handicap chase doesn’t look the strongest and the consistent GETTHEPOT can get his head in front after a string of seconds.

He ran a cracker following wind surgery and a break to go down by just three-quarters of a length at Doncaster and was returning from a similar scenario when runner-up at Southwell last month.

There’s every chance he’ll appreciate this slightly shorter trip, having never won over three miles before, and he’s in better form than most of his rivals.

16:05 Southwell - Tremolo @ 9/2

TREMOLO is shaping up to be somewhat of an all-weather specialist and makes plenty of appeal in Southwell’s mile handicap.

After a couple of no-shows on turf, he enjoyed the return to synthetics when carving through the field to land a 7f handicap with something to spare at Kempton in May, taking his form figures on the all-weather to 311.

That form could hardly have worked out better, with the runner-up winning his next two and the third also being successful the following time.

Tremolo won his novice at this course, so should have no issues switching to Tapeta from Polytrack, and he is bred to stay this longer trip. There is a lot to like.

16:53 Perth - Ravenscraig Castle @ 5/1

The 2m handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys is a far cry from the sort of races RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE was running in earlier this year and he has the potential to outclass his rivals.

Following wind surgery in December, Iain Jardine’s gelding chased home the improving Slugger, who subsequently went close in a handicap at Aintree’s Grand National meeting, before finishing fifth in the Class 2 Scottish County Handicap Hurdle.

Two runs on left-handed tracks didn’t suit when last seen over jumps, but he showed he was in good form when placing on the Flat last month and he now drops into his first Class 5 handicap hurdle.

He’s on a good mark and looks a cut above this level, especially back on a right-handed track.

18:15 Southwell - Loom @ 11/2

LOOM has caught the eye a couple of times this season, travelling well for a long way before fading in a strong 6f handicap at Newmarket on his reappearance and then coming home well to take second in a 5f handicap at the Dante meeting.

He’s had excuses for his last two defeats, as he was far too keen when asked to race closer to the pace in a 5f handicap back at York before again not appreciating the step back up to six furlongs last time.

He looks better suited to this shorter distance, given his only other starts at this trip saw him prove too good for the now 88-rated Artagnan in a novice and be beaten less than four lengths in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot last year.

There is hope in his pedigree that he will take to the all-weather (his brother produced one of his best runs on Tapeta) and he looks well treated if handling this new surface.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
