Lucky 15

There's some marvellous racing on Saturday in the UK and over in Ireland. I've already looked at ITV's live output from Newcastle and Newmarket in another piece, so our Lucky 15 tips on Saturday June 29 will come from a seven-race early evening card from Town Moor, Doncaster.

First race is 17:50. It looks competitive, and I'm sure it will be entertaining.

Lucky 15 Tips Saturday

Doncaster

  • 17.50 - Rock Opera @ 5/1
  • 18:25 - Dark Sun @ 4/1
  • 19:00 - Great Max @ 9/2
  • 21:00 - War Chant @ 4/1

Today's Horse Races

17.50 - Rock Opera @ 5/1

The splendid Richard Fahey saddles this in-form four-year-old gelding, who failed by a whisker at this trip/grade about three weeks ago.

Rock Opera is up 2lb courtesy of the nasty old handicapper but he won off this mark at Southwell in January and can surely be ultra-competitive this evening.

18:25 - Dark Sun @ 4/1

Trainer William Haggas is in great nick right now and loves having winners in his native Yorkshire.

Dark Sun is a three-year-old Dark Angel filly having her fourth career start, looking to break her maiden. Given her experience, and the form of her stable, I'm putting her bang in there with a big chance. Kevin Stott rides.

It doesn't look the toughest heat and she's entitled to come on for a seasonal return three weeks ago at Ripon, beaten 4l, and not appreciating the famous ridges. She'll find Donny a flatter, more straightforward test.

19:00 - Great Max @ 9/2

David O'Meara's five-year-old gelding ran here 13 days ago over a mile, and after travelling like a dream, just didn't get home in the final furlong.

Great Max slips down to 7f tonight, and it could be an inspired move. Michael Bell had the horse until February, and it's run number three for new connections.

Three's a charm? Could well be. Great trainer, powerful yard, David Nolan rides.

21:00 - War Chant @ 4/1

Newmarket trainer Rae Guest runs War Chant, a four-year-old War Command gelding. He won nicely at Nottingham 27 days ago off a mark of 72, and at these lower levels narrow wins are rarely hammered by the assessor - he's up just 2lb for that, to 74.

Rae puts 5lb claimer Tommie Jakes on top to wipe out and more that penalty, so for me his chance of a repeat is undeniable.

If you're playing have fun, take care, and good luck. Fingers crossed for England on Sunday - goodness knows what to expect, but something will happen one way or the other!

Horse Racing Odds

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £800 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
