Lucky 15 Tips: Chester provides superb Saturday spectacle

Great racing is inevitably coming our way on Saturday, and I've looked at the thrilling ITV contests in a separate piece. For our Lucky 15 tips let's head to gorgeous, historic Chester, and an excellent seven-race card that kicks in at 13:55.

13:55 - Dubai Time @ 11/4

I enjoy backing runners from this yard here as they love having winners on the Roodee - and often do.

Dubai Time is from the yard of Hugo Palmer, based fairly locally at Malpas, Cheshire - the Manor House Stables complex, Michael Owen, et al.

The selection is a two-year-old Time Test filly that's scored once already in her six-race career; and run extremely well, including here, on several other occasions.

This is her fourth nursery, and she's running off the same mark (65) as when running Half Sovereign to 2.5l at Newmarket 35 days ago - and that winner has come out and obliged next time up at Doncaster. Strong form.

15:05 - On The River @ 11/1

A six-year-old gelding now, trained by Harriet Bethell in East Yorkshire.

This is a selling race, and some are far better treated by the race conditions than others. The weight spread of all the runners is between 9st 2lb and 9st 12lb, but the official handicap marks go from a low of 47 right up to a high of 107!

A bit of a minefield then, but hopefully we've found one that will run to somewhere near its mark and get close. On The River runs today off 80, and at Haydock last time two weeks ago was beaten 5l, off 82, in a Class 4 handicap.

Off 85 in July he was only beaten 2l - so off 80 there's surely every chance of a performance that could threaten. The excellent, evergreen Joe Fanning is doing the steering.

16:15 - Smart Vision @ 15/2

Decent 5f sprint handicap, and a selection looking to defy a 3lb penalty.

Smart Vision is a four-year-old gelding by US sire Due Diligence. Jessica Macey trains, at Doncaster, and Oliver Stammers rides. That last success was at Beverley 27 days ago, by a neck (same trip/grade).

He made all that day and guess where he's drawn this afternoon, on just about the tightest track in the country - yes, the number one box. The equation is simple then - look to blast out and repel all would-be boarders, fingers crossed.

He's been rated in the mid-80s before so this mark of 80 shouldn't be insurmountable.

17:20 - Jupiter Ammon @ 4/1

An Andrew Balding raider now - a three-year-old New Bay colt who runs in the famous Fitri Hay silks.

Jupiter Ammon has raced on six occasions, and despite several praiseworthy efforts is still looking for that first success. Last time out at Goodwood 18 days ago he failed by just 1.5l in novice company at around this ten-furlong-and-change trip, and prior to that in a warm handicap again on the Downs he was just 3l off the winner in a £40k affair.

Callum Hutchinson rides, as he has on one previous occasion, and in this Class 4 company he stands out today for me.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £900 for your total £7.50 stake.
