Lucky 15 Tips: Early start at Lingers, lots of great chances

Tipped up a 7/2 scorer that was returned at a magnificent 9/1 on Friday! Nothing to go with it though unfortunately, but still, double the odds for a solitary winner and all that.

As for Saturday, we've looked at the cream of the jumping action from Ascot and Haydock in the companion ITV piece, so for our Lucky 15 tips (January 18) let's head to leafy Lingfield for what can only be described as a lunchtime meeting! Action kicks in at 10:15, there are seven races, and we've got Marquand, Doyle, Probert, Loughnane and all manner of tip-top jocks to entertain us. Should be a blast.

10:15 - Haaland @ 3/1

After yesterday's announcement that the Manchester City footballer of the same name has put pen to paper on a very long-term contract, could we really go anywhere else for this opener?

Seriously though, Haaland is a decent four-year-old staying handicapper in the hands of Jim & Suzi Best in East Sussex. Last time out 10 days ago at Kempton he failed by just half a length, similar contest/trip, and tries again off the same mark (74) with the excellent Sean D Bowen on top.

The last run was about as good as anything produced by him in the past (was with Gay Kellaway until September last), and he's won here before. I like his chances.

11:15 - Master Of My Fate @ 15/8

The shrewd combo of John and Sean Quinn raid from North Yorkshire with a four-year-old course-and-distance-winning sprinter.

Master Of My Fate won a race here off 71 a couple of weeks ago and gets both a slight class hike and an extra four spots in the handicap for his trouble. He was caught out wide the last day for some of the trip but came there very easily.

He's drawn four of seven on Saturday and can hopefully tuck in before being produced late with a telling run. Won't be easy but is in fine fettle, and regular pilot Jason Hart has the riding assignment.

Is very much a 5f specialist and has got bright prospects of further success.

11:45 - Humam @ 11/10

Gorgeously-bred three-year-old colt by Kodiac out of a Shamardal mare - two career starts, and full of promise.

Trained by Andrew Balding at Kingsclere, and owned by Al Shaqab, Humam will surely very soon pick up a novice or a maiden of this nature, and here's hoping it's on Saturday.

Start number one - satisfactory mid-pack Newmarket introduction on soft ground, followed by a half-length second in a Donny maiden, again on soft, won by So Darn Hot - our ready, tipped-up winner of a £23k handicap at Newcastle on Friday!

Form's solid, connections 24-carat, chance not in doubt. Nap on the card.

13:25 - Santorini Star @ 5/2

Trainer William Haggas runs this four-year-old filly by the great Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn.

Tom Marquand is one of our very best jockeys, and enjoys a great deal of success when venturing overseas, too. He rides this lightly-raced course-and-distance scorer for the first time since her debut, but this will only be start number four all told, and no appearances as a two-year-old.

Last time out Santorini Star won on handicap debut at this trip, off a mark of 77. Fortunately it was a cosy success, because the assessor has put her up to 83 this afternoon.

She's up a couple of notches class-wise also, but this is another beautifully bred type (quite apart from her phenomenal sire she's out of a Teofilo mare), and Haggas is a master. Looking forward to this one immensely.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
