Lucky 15 Tips: Mrs Tabitha to call the shots at Bangor

Summer is well and truly appearing and with the sunshine comes a typically busy feast of Saturday racing, with eight meetings scheduled across the UK and Ireland. The Lockinge meeting at Newbury is the centrepiece, with further Flat cards from Newmarket, Thirsk, Navan and Doncaster (evening) joined by jumps meetings at Bangor-on-Dee, Wexford and Uttoxeter (evening) on a stacked day with 59 races taking place.

Below are my Lucky15 tips for Saturday's action, including the mare Mrs Tabitha for the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero team after she put up a fine first effort over fences last month.

13:05 Newmarket – Leadman @ 7/1

He remains a maiden after eight starts, the first of which came back in the summer of 2022, but LEADMAN made a hugely promising stable debut for David O'Meara at Newcastle this month.

He was back from 200 days off and ran well behind rejuvenated winner Benacre after meeting trouble in running.

That was off a mark of 83 and he's back on turf from the same perch. He ran well here in a maiden on his debut, splitting smart performers in finishing second, and will handle the track and conditions. If he comes on for that reappearance run he looks a big player.

13:45 Bangor-on-Dee - Hidalgo De L'isle @ SP

The Bangor-On-Dee Family Fun Day Handicap Hurdle is a contest Donald McCain likes, winning it twice in recent years including with HIDALGO DE L'ISLE in 2023.

The now eight-year-old hasn't scored over hurdles since, although he did win at Newton Abbot over fences last summer.

His course and distance record shows two wins and a second from three runs, denied by a thriving Feel The Pinch when attempting the follow up here in June 2023.

He was rated 119 for that race but is 5lb lower now, while a pair of first-time cheekpieces are deployed after a couple of low-key efforts this spring. Returning to this venue could be the key to him.

14:00 Newbury – Ernst Blofeld @ 17/2

The Trade Nation London Gold Cup Handicap has drawn only 10 runners despite boasting north of £51k for the winner.

Aidan O'Brien sends over Genealogy but the Wootton Basset colt doesn't appear especially well treated off 96, while John & Thady Gosden saddle both topweight Nebras and ERNST BLOFELD.

They were second and third respectively behind Alpine Trail in the Listed Nyetimber Newmarket Stakes at Newmarket's Guineas Festival, the Godolphin runner at that time remaining unbeaten.

A Kempton novice winner on his second start, Frankel colt Ernst Blofeld was a bit keen early and should have learned plenty in encountering the undulations of the Newmarket track.

He is 6lb better off with his stablemate for a three-length defeat and the fast ground here should suit, while the booking of William Buick is another positive.

16:05 Bangor-on-Dee – Mrs Tabitha @ 7/1

MRS TABITHA made a satisfying debut over fences when second at this course five weeks ago and is now taken to go a place better for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero in the Remembering Kitty Warburton Handicap Chase.

The Jack Hobbs mare was a low-grade hurdler, winning once at Ludlow (2m5f, good) in April last year from her 10 attempts in that code.

She sported first-time blinkers (retained) when coming back from a four-month layoff with that effort here last month, and she jumped well before just failing to keep tabs on the impressive winner Bridget Mary for Rebecca Curtis' team.

That form is solid for the grade and she has an unchanged mark now. She was a long way clear of everything else and can gain some compensation.
