Lucky 15 Tips: Saturday’s cream to rise to the top at the Curragh

A fabulous embarrassment of racing riches is the story of Saturday - and for our Lucky 15 tips we're massively spoilt for choice. Let's take a rare visit to the Curragh, and their excellent eight-race card that kicks in at 13:15.

13:50 - No Alibi @ 9/4

William James Lee did us a favour last week by winning an Aintree bumper no less, and regular readers will know that I bow to few in terms of the lofty opinion I have of this gifted pilot.

No Alibi is a three-year-old American-bred filly, unraced, and is in the sizzling yard of Paddy Twomey (38% strike-rate in the last 14 days). The predicted good ground (6f is the trip) should suit the pedigree nicely as the sire Blame was an outstanding dirt horse, boasting a Breeders' Cup Classic win against the mighty Zenyatta no less.

Paddy's flying, Billy's exceptional; let's chance our arm that the filly is a bit special, too.

14:20 - Charles Darwin @ 6/4

From Lee, to Moore - Ryan Moore.

Another unraced entrant, a colt this time, and over the minimum 5f trip. Charles Darwin represents the might of Aidan O'Brien and Ballydoyle, and is another American-bred (by No Nay Never, who took the Norfolk at Royal Ascot).

None of these have run, but Aidan's had five winners in the last fortnight (17% strike-rate, nothing to write home about, but still a positive in my book), and it's not hard to imagine he'll know his job.

Perhaps he'll go on to take in the Norfolk like his illustrious sire, and if so this could the first step towards doing just that. It's a race to pay close attention to with the future in mind.

15:25 - One Look @ 9/2

Back to Billy Lee and Paddy Twomey, and this time they'll probably have to overcome another Ballydoyle inmate if they're to take this handsome 40,000 euros prize.

It's a G3 for fillies and mares, and One Look is an impressive three-from-seven lifetime in a career so far where she's been campaigned quite sparingly.

Big sales race win on debut here in September 2023, then half-a-dozen spins at three which included a Listed success and a close-run reverse in a G3 when last seen in September 2024.

With the yard in such great form it's not hard to envisage a cracking effort from this daughter of Gleneagles, and she's probably got the Ballydoyle three-year-old Whirl to worry about the most.

16:35 - Jan Brueghel @ 5/4

Let's top and tail our mini-card with a bit of perfect symmetry - back to Ryan Moore, the familiar Westerberg, Mrs J Magnier, M Tabor, D Smith silks, and the Betfred St Leger hero from last autumn Jan Brueghel.

This outstanding four-year-old son of the much-missed and simply glorious Galileo reappears at a track he's won at previously, is unbeaten in just four career spins being unraced at two, and will doubtless have his dance card full to bursting with mouth-watering staying engagements as the season progresses.

If he's straight he really should be taking this for me, and it might well be a performance to savour.
