Lucky 15

We've got a fantastic Saturday of racing to enjoy. I've already examined what's live courtesy of the ITV cameras, so we can happily look elsewhere for our Lucky 15 tips. We managed at least a winner a day at Chester and let's see if we can find one or two to run well for us from the mixed jumps/flat extravaganza at Haydock Park.

Seven fascinating contests take place between 13:35 and 17:00, and with the sun scheduled to be making a welcome appearance there won't be many better sporting venues to visit anywhere in the country.

Lucky 15 Tips Saturday

Haydock

  • 13:35 - Zain Nights @ 6/1
  • 14:10 - Cerulean Bay @ 9/2
  • 15:50 - Poet Master @ 2/1
  • 17:00 - Minstrel Knight @ 4/1

13:35 - Zain Nights @ 6/1

Five places each-way, and a tricky staying handicap hurdle puzzle to solve.

Our selection Zain Nights has the magic Saturday man Gavin Sheehan on top, for trainer Lucy Wadham. Gorgeous Gav's ridden the five-year-old gelding once before and his booking is a big plus in my view.

The horse is fresh from a Cheltenham success 24 days ago under a brilliant Bryony Frost ride, and has to defy a 6lb uplift. In fine form, that's a distinct possibility; but the nature of my e/w L15 bet means we've got a few handy places to play with, too.

14:10 - Cerulean Bay @ 9/2

Danny Tudhope rides for David O'Meara, and this one drops slightly in class, too.

Cerulean Bay excelled at Beverley on seasonal reappearance with a close-up fourth-placed finish. That should have put the three-year-old New Bay gelding spot on for this and he's already tasted success twice in his two-year-old season.

The mile trip should pose no problems and indeed his illustrious sire finished second in Golden Horn's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

15:50 - Poet Master @ 2/1

Small (ish) field, Listed contest over 7f, and a cracking pot of around £28k to chase.

Poet Master is a course-and-distance scorer from the mighty Karl Burke yard and arrives off an excellent Class 2 handicap win at HQ around three weeks ago. This is career start number six and no-one bar Sam James has ridden him in public.

The partnership endures on Saturday and though the four-year-old Lope De Vega gelding isn't top-rated, he appeals to me as by far the most likely winner.

17:00 - Minstrel Knight @ 4/1

More teak-tough and talented northern connections here, with Ed Bethell's three-year-old gelding Minstrel Knight. Callum Rodriguez rides.

A ten furlong, Class 5 handicap - and the selection went well here in a similar affair just a fortnight ago, staying on at the business end. That was at a mile, and he looks sure to appreciate this extra 2f.

He's not sure to want it on breeding, being by the Group 1-winning sprinter Advertise, but it looks well worth a blast on recent evidence.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £320 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
