Lucky 15

Another week begins - not quite as cataclysmic as the previous seven days (probably), but then again England are in action once more in the Euros! City Of Troy duly won the Eclipse on Saturday, but in the manner of the England team really - ultra-resolute, but definitely lurking in the no-frills section. I got much more pleasure from tipping up Queen Of The Pride (returned 10/3) at Haydock, in the Lancashire Oaks. Special.

Monday's racing has a couple of afternoon cards and three in the evening; and it's to one of the latter that we'll journey for our Lucky 15 tips on Monday July 8. All your horse racing odds are right here for the day, but in the meantime it's to Dunstall Park we go. All-weather magic in the company of the likes of Oisin Murphy and Hollie Doyle, plus an eight-race card, too. Yes please.

Horse Racing Odds

16:45 - Dashinwhitesargent @ 15/8

Oisin Murphy rides for East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison.

Dashinwhitesargent is a three-year-old colt getting what looks like a welcome class-drop on Monday into Class 5 company. He's shown glimmers only so far, including on the all-weather, and was perhaps unsuited by Goodwood's unique contours last time 17 days ago.

Reaching for Murphy, a return to the sand and having his sights lowered encourages me to think that such a modest contest could be within compass.

18:30 - Porfin @ 5/2

To a far more experienced campaigner now, a basement handicapper but one that is admirably consistent.

Porfin is in the care of Phil McEntee and will be ridden by his daughter Grace. The six-year-old gelding was narrowly denied here over 6f just a week ago, and steps up to 7f tonight.

It was just about his best run since last summer and looks well worth another stab at seven, with the jury out as to whether he's looked truly at ease with it in the past. Hopefully Grace can smuggle him into the contest and pounce late.

20:10 - Carmarthen @ 9/4

Another ordinary handicap, and a filly in form for Jack Channon and jockey Ed Greatrex.

Carmarthen has run extremely well in her last two contests, both on turf, and looks to strike on the sand for what would be a first career success. The three-year-old Havana Gold filly seems to be getting the hang of things now and if she can overcome the eight-box draw has a bright chance in my book.

20:40 - Victors Dream @ 5/2

The Marcos - Botti and Ghiani - combine with this four-year-old Oasis Dream gelding.

He won a little Classified Stakes race at Brighton (5.5f) five weeks ago off 50, and returns over 5f here off a mark only a pound higher. Rival Bluebells Boy has a 7lb penalty to shoulder after an emphatic success at Yarmouth 10 days ago, and that tips the scales quite literally for me in favour of Victors Dream.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £160 for your total £7.50 stake.
