Lucky 15 generic

This weekend was a particularly exciting one, with the Aintree Festival providing plenty of entertainment. It’s a little quieter on the quality front on Monday and Flat racing dominates the day’s action.

Kelso hosts Monday’s sole National Hunt meeting in the afternoon and the action continues at Redcar and Wolverhampton, whilst Kempton’s all-weather fixture takes us through the evening. We’ve picked out four strong fancies to follow on Monday and they can be combined to form a very interesting Lucky 15.

Lucky 15 Tips - Monday, April 7

  • Kelso 14:15 – High Dancer @ 7/4
  • Wolverhampton 14:35 – Manara @ 3/1
  • Kelso 15:15 – Cadell @ 5/2
  • Redcar 16:27 – Titanium @ 13/2

Kelso 14:15 – High Dancer @ 7/4

Look out for James Ewart’s HIGH DANCER at Kelso, as this Irish point winner has lots of scope for further progress. This son of Norse Dancer cost £95,000 after that point-to-point success and connections will be hoping he’s capable of winning more races.

It was a reasonable enough performance from this gelding when third in a maiden hurdle at this venue over two miles in October, but it was immediately obvious that he was going to need a longer trip in order to thrive.

Getting off the mark in good style at Haydock last time out, he was pulling away at the line and the six-and-a-half-length winning margin probably underestimates him slightly. The return to handicaps won’t be a problem and 111 looks like a reasonable mark.

Wolverhampton 14:35 – Manara @ 3/1

It’s rare that a horse takes to handicaps as quickly as Kevin Philippart De Foy’s filly MANARA has and obviously the 6f trip in her first three starts was inadequate as she showed very little, but she has certainly improved drastically in this sphere.

She went immediately up in trip to a mile upon making her handicap debut and she got off the mark with a very smooth success at Chelmsford in November. Even more impressive when scoring by five lengths at Wolverhampton next time, her rivals had no answer that day.

This daughter of Camelot was last seen winning over course and distance in January and the handicapper has responded with a 7lb rise. More will be needed in this higher grade and off a mark of 78, but she’s one to keep on side for the time being.

Kelso 15:15 – Cadell @ 5/2

Lucinda Russell knows what she’s doing with staying handicap chasers and her runner CADELL has taken well to fences. He won a novice chase at Wetherby on good ground in impressive style in October so the quicker conditions won’t be an issue on Monday.

Connections then stepped him up to Grade 2 level at Sandown in December and he wasn’t quite ready for that sort of test. Just shy of four miles was a step too far for the seven-year-old at Musselburgh after that, so it’s easy to forgive that effort.

Cadell took full advantage of a 4lb drop in the weights to win at this venue over 3m2f last time out and it would be no surprise if this lightly raced sort has more up his sleeve before the handicapper catches up.

Redcar 16:27 – Titanium @ 13/2

Every racecourse is different and as such, some horses perform better at certain tracks than others. Grant Tuer’s TITAINIUM tends to save his best for Redcar and that’s why he could be the one to side with in this race.

This son of Bated Breath has finished first and second in two course and distance starts and was narrowly denied over a shorter trip in June. He won at this venue off a 3lb lower mark in August and was a good second off 1lb higher a month later.

Good ground is important to this horse and whilst good, good to soft in places should be fine, sunny weather should dry the track out further and further increase confidence. A return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out here.

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £370 for your total £7.50 stake.
