Monday Lucky 15 Tips: Varian filly looks the answer

Lucky 15

On Friday we tipped up a couple of Rossa Ryan's mounts and headlined him to have a profitable day at Wolverhampton. Both duly obliged at 5/2 and 9/2, so we start the week in rude order.

Just a thought - the next race to be run at Cheltenham will be the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. I'll let that settle for a moment ..

Monday's fare takes in Punchestown, Hereford and Plumpton over the sticks, and Wolves once more on the Tapeta all-weather. No-brainer as to where to go, given our success on the sand - Dunstall Park, West Midlands it is!

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £222 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Monday

  • 17.25 - Blue Collar Lad @ 3/1
  • 18.00 - Blue Virtue @ 9/4
  • 19.30 - Inexplicable @ 6/4
  • 20.30 - Higher Law @ 11/4

17.25 - Blue Collar Lad @ 3/1

Winner-machine Rossa Ryan rides, for trainer Robin Brisland.

Knocking loudly on the door at this level of late, and you just know connections feel the 5-yr-old's turn is close when you see guys like Billy Loughnane and Rossa getting jocked-up.

His mark of 53 is unchanged despite those narrow recent reverses and from the 3 box Ryan can find a possie and strike late up the straight, to gain a deserved first success since June when Billy did the business at Lingers, at this trip, off 57.

18.00 - Blue Virtue @ 9/4

A very decent-looking fillies' novice stakes, with some big yards represented.

I'm plumping for Blue Virtue, a Roger Varian inmate with two encouraging and progressive efforts behind her ahead of today. Doing her best work at the finish at Southwell last time (6f), she gets a further 220 yards to get into a winning position today.

By fabulous sprint sire Blue Point, she should have plenty of boot but ran as if 7f would be fine last time. Shrewd, powerful yard have chosen this just 18 days after Southwell, and I'm expecting a huge run.

19.30 - Inexplicable @ 6/4

I've tipped this up successfully in recent weeks, and the 7-yr-old Antony Brittain gelding is in great nick.

Regular pilot Harry Russell has just this one mount on the card, and try as I might I can't find any reason why he won't run very well this evening. He bumped into one at Southwell last time and it was nearly 3l back to the third.

He's up to a mark of 50 now but in such good order he can make light of that - fingers crossed.

20.30 - Higher Law @ 11/4

Another I've tipped up recently, and he had no luck whatsoever in-running last time at Southwell, 11 days ago.

Trainer Kevin Frost's horses have been running competitively without neccessarily scoring heavily and Lewis Edmunds, who knows the horse well, takes over in the saddle from PJ McDonald.

He's drawn 4 in this 6f sprint, so Lewis will look to bury him on the inside and hope for some luck late in the piece. He's still searching for a first career victory but that might all change tonight.
