Horse Racing Tips: Calafiori will be gunning for glory at Redcar

Flat racing dominates proceedings on Monday, with all five meetings across Britain and Ireland taking place on the level.
Redcar’s seven-race card gets us started and Carlisle also hosts an afternoon fixture. Roscommon, Windsor and Wolverhampton take us through the evening, so there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.
We have three strong fancies to follow on Monday and chief amongst them is a George Boughey juvenile that should very much be the one to beat at Redcar.

14.15 Redcar - Calafiori @ 11/8
George Boughey runs CALAFIORI in the second division of the two-year-old maiden at Redcar and there’s lots to like about his profile. A relatively cheap purchase at £18,000, he’s half-brother to a winner in Saudi Arabia.
This son of Ardad made his debut in a 5f maiden at Leicester in April and things didn’t go to plan right from the start. He was carried badly to his right early on and was never able to recover from that point on, eventually finishing last of the six runners.
It’s therefore pretty easy to forgive that effort and he showed significant improvement when runner-up over the same course and distance next time. He bumped into an impressive winner that day but stuck to his task and ran on well in the final furlong.
The step up in trip looks likely to suit on that evidence and this looks like a very winnable maiden. Boughey’s colt should be coming out on top here and it’ll be disappointing if he fails to do so.

15.45 Redcar - Cadarn @ 4/5
Another one for Boughey, the thoroughly unexposed CADARN makes just his second start in handicap company here and he should prove very hard to beat, having been dropped in grade.
He came very close to making a perfect start to his Flat career when second by a short head in a Newcastle novice back in October and the front two were well clear of the rest that day. Second again when upped to 1m4f at Wolverhampton after that, he failed to see out the trip.
Boughey’s four-year-old got his season off to the perfect start with a course and distance win on handicap debut last month. That win came in Class 3 company so the fact that he’s been dropped in grade here could be significant and a 3lb rise should make little difference.

17.00 Carlisle - Crown’s Lady @ 11/4
This looks like a competitive race for the grade and the progressive four-year-old CROWN’S LADY makes the most appeal. She won three races for Craig Lidster and has made two starts for Ed Bethell this season.
Beginning her season at Beverley, she was second to an impressive winner and appeared to be lacking in sharpness. It’s also noted that most of the yard’s runners were needing the run first time out, and that proved to be the case with Crown’s Lady.
She won at Wolverhampton last time out, despite hanging to her left in the closing stages and managed to hold off the runner-up to score by half-a-length. The handicapper has responded with a 4lb rise and further progress can’t be ruled out.
