Lucky 15 Tips: Cinderello can pull off a fairytale result

There’s a little something for everyone on Monday, with four meetings taking place across Britain, although there’s no Irish representation. Flat racing forms the majority but there’s also an offering of National Hunt action for summer jumps fans.

Stratford, Catterick, Windsor and Ayr provide the racing so we’ve selected four strong fancies who can be combined into a Lucky 15 for Monday’s action.

14:45 Catterick – Demetrius @ 15/8

Nurseries are commonplace at this stage of the season and they are often interesting puzzles to solve. Some horses are campaigned purely to obtain handicap marks before going handicapping and that appears to be the case with DEMETRIUS.

Sir Mark Prescott’s juvenile wasn’t exactly given a tough time in his first three starts and he looked pretty average, especially at Pontefract last month. In his defence, he was hanging both ways up the run-in so he did look in need of the experience.

It was a much better display on his handicap debut at Kempton earlier this month however, and he stuck to his task very well to finish second. Beaten just half-a-length that day, he finished his race off much more effectively and the signs were very positive.

The handicapper has put him up 3lb since, so more will be needed but there’s plenty of scope for improvement in this sphere and victory could well be on the cards.

15:27 Stratford – Cinderello @ 3/1

Alex Hales’ CINDERELLO struggled in a couple of bumpers and it was a similar story in three starts in novice company over hurdles. Her first three hurdles starts resulted in heavy defeats at big prices but she improved dramatically to get off the mark last time out.

It’s no surprise that Hales had to explain the improvement to the stewards but the significant step up in trip was clearly in her favour. That was also her handicap debut and it was a pretty average affair to boot.

She reappears here off a 4lb higher mark and it would be no surprise if there was loads of improvement still to come.

15:57 Stratford – Arclight @ 5/2

ARCLIGHT was lightly raced but fairly useful on the Flat and she made a fantastic start to her hurdling career as a juvenile. Nicky Henderson’s mare got off the mark straight away and followed up impressively at Kempton after that, before placing in a Listed race.

Kicking off her chasing career with a hat-trick in 2023, two of those successes came in Listed company at up to 2m4f. She returned to winning ways with a game victory in a Class 2 contest at this course in July and has been raised 6lb as a result.

It remains to be seen if there’s much room for manoeuvre with her current rating but she does tend to win in spells so now is a good time to catch her.

16:21 Windsor – Pergola @ 6/4

William Haggas is in fine form and he runs the lightly raced PERGOLA here. Consistency has been lacking thus far but the daughter of Wootton Bassett is still learning her trade.

She was a solid second in a Bath novice in May, before disappointing in a maiden at Kempton. Making her handicap debut at Epsom after that, she overcame a slow start to get up late on and shed her maiden tag.

Haggas’ filly needs to bounce back after another average effort at Sandown last time but this is probably easier and she should be capable of competing off this sort of mark if back to her best.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
