Greetings everyone, and welcome to a new week of racing. We were in decent form towards the end of last week, and had a stack of seconds in the ITV piece on Saturday. Onward and upwards then on Monday as we've National Hunt meetings from Punchestown and Hereford to enjoy, plus all-weather action at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.
Wolves is a late-afternoon/early-evening affair, and it's there we'll go for Monday's Lucky 15. Rossa Ryan has five booked rides on a cracking nine-race card, so here goes.
This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £280 for your total £7.50 stake.
Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
16.30 - Big Narstie @ 11/10
Rossa Ryan, Mick Appleby, and an experienced 6-yr-old gelding who went down by just a neck in this grade last time. Lots to like then, and with Rossa trying to win from a prominent possie last time at Southwell over a mile, connections drop back to 7f here.
He could look to blast out and try to make all - or knowing the horse is back to some kind of decent form, wait his turn and hope to pounce. What's not at issue is that he's trained by an all-weather maestro and ridden by one of the hottest jocks in the country. Happy to believe they'll find a way to succeed this afternoon.
17.00 - Bear To Dream @ 7/2
Division 2 of the 16.30, same 7f trip.
Bear To Dream is a 5-yr-old mare once again in bright 'nick' right now, after a half-length second at Lingfield over 6f thirteen days ago. Is versatile in that she's campaigned between sprint trips and even a couple at attempts at a mile - and importantly has won at 7f.
In these basement contests backing horses in form is crucial in my book and I hope Paddy Bradley, claiming a useful 3lb, can get competitive on Michael Attwater's challenger today.
18.30 - Thismydream @ 4/1
90 minutes later, and the owner/trainer has another live chance in the form of Thismydream, ridden by Rossa Ryan.
A class-dropper who has been relieved (2lb) in the handicap too - a Class 6 here after many efforts in a higher grade during the last 12 months.
At this track 13 days ago he was slowly away and never figured over this minimum 5f trip. Ryan's mission surely is to get out from the two box and secure a pitch. No dawdling please.
This could be blown at the start but with great respect to previous pilots the man on board today is one of the leading lights in the game, and has been secured no doubt to remedy recent woes. Fascinating test of his talent today - can't wait.
19.00 - Tathmeen @ 7/2
Young jockey Harry Russell is someone I rate very highly, and it's not hard to notice he's got just one booked ride at Wolves today - Tathmeen.
Anthony Brittain trains, and Harry is very familiar with the 9-yr-old gelding, including being on board the last twice. 11 weeks ago in this grade/trip at Newcastle he finished close-up after a tardy start and he goes very well when refreshed after a wee break.
Tathmeen has won here before and has slipped to a very tempting-looking mark (49). He ran off 59 here in the summer, and has a real shout for me today.
