Lucky 15

Hello, dear reader. A couple of places only to report from 24 hours ago on a forgettable day, frankly. We go again today, Friday Feb 9th, and jump racing depended upon Kempton passing a morning inspection. - which it did, mercifully.

All-weather action comes from Wolverhampton, Dundalk and Chelmsford, while many familiar names are riding in Meydan this afternoon in the UAE, too.

Some of my favourite sand pilots are in action at Wolves so it's there we go for today's Lucky 15 suggestion. Billy Loughnane has a promising-looking book of rides, as does Rossa Ryan. Expect a few pulsating finishes between these two quite brilliant riders this afternoon.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £328 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Friday

Wolverhampton

  • 14.02 - Higher Law @ 2/1
  • 16.07 - Arcadian Nights @ 6/1
  • 16.37 - Optician @ 3/1
  • 17.07 - Red Walls @ 15/8

14.02 - Higher Law @ 2/1

Experienced sprinters line up to do battle over 6f.

Higher Law is in form - always a massive plus, especially at these lower levels. 11 days ago he was beaten narrowly here by Smasher, a consistent and talented veteran, and he's very effective on this Tapeta surface at Dunstall Park.

Lewis Edmunds knows the horse well, and Kevin Frost trains about 80-odd miles away in Nottinghamshire. The 4-yr-old Exceed And Excel gelding hasn't managed to get his head in front yet but a richly-deserved first success could be imminent.

Drawn 2, is usually held up, and needs a bit of luck late in the piece; but with only 8 runners life shouldn't be too tricky regarding securing a clear passage, fingers crossed.

16.07 - Arcadian Nights @ 6/1

Billy Loughnane rides this 6-yr-old gelding for Dad Mark, fresh from a series of competitive efforts over this course and distance.

His last spin on Jan 5th was pretty much as good as anything he's produced, and off 78 today he's only a pound higher than his last winning mark. This 9.5f trip is quite niche, and he handles it well.

His turn looks very close at hand to me and he can add to the four Wolves successes he's already notched up. Billy knows him well, and adds value to any horse's chances these days.

16.37 - Optician @ 3/1

Rossa Ryan-time now, and a Shaun Lycett-trained 4-yr-old gelding who's chasing a three-timer.

Operates off 62 today, up 3lb for his last success, but that was an authoritative win. Shaun only received the horse into his care in November from Tim Easterby, and Optician is unbeaten in two starts for new connections.

Both victories were achieved here, the first time he'd raced on the surface, and he's evidently thriving just now. Here's hoping Rossa can squeeze out the necessary additional oomph in order to land the hat-trick this afternoon.

17.07 - Red Walls @ 15/8

Trappy 5f finale, but we're siding with another who knows what it's like to win around here in the form of Red Walls.

Regular jockey Ethan Jones claims 7lb, and the horse is trained in Tarporley by Lisa Williamson. He gets 6f which is no bad thing and has been in decent form over the winter.

This is a very modest contest and his creditable Lingfield run last weekend signalled that he remains in good order. Likely to be prominent throughout and hopefully can repel all would-be boarders.

Enjoy; and if you're playing, as always - good luck.
