Lucky 15 Tips: Brussels can bounce back

There’s a total of seven meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland, with the action kicking off at Musselburgh, before Brighton and Thirsk also get under way in the afternoon.

15:55 Musselburgh - Protest Rally @ 5/2

Seven sprinters are set go to post in this Class 4 for three-year-olds and older and all seven have a win over the minimum trip, but only two have scored over course and distance. One of those is Protest Rally, who has shown a real liking for this Scottish venue.

From six runs here, he has won three times and finished second twice, with the only time he missed the first two coming on his latest start, when he finished fourth, just a length and a half behind the winner. He is now back down to the mark he last won off and can further enhance his record at his favourite track.

16:30 Musselburgh - Naturalia @ 11/4

Naturalia has seen her latest win at Ayr work out very well, and could follow that up with another victory. She won over one mile five which was her longest trip to date, and came through by a head, beating four rivals. Of those beaten foes, three won next time out, with only the fourth failing to give the form a perfect record, although he still finished third.

Naturalia is bred to stay, and clearly won a good race at this level last time out. She’s only up 3lb for that win which gives her an excellent chance to double up.

17:47 Tipperary - Brussels @ 8/15

Dropping in class after a disappointing fourth in the July Stakes, Brussels had shown plenty of potential on debut and went to Newmarket as a 9/4 second favourite. It’s worth noting that both market leaders underperformed that day, largely due to taking each other on far too soon, ultimately finishing fourth and fifth.

The winner, Zavateri, has since gone on to score at Goodwood, so the race has some form to boost.

However, this wasn’t Brussels’ true running, and he can be expected to leave that effort behind. Bred to be better over further, he should prove that at Tipperary, as he did keep on strongly at the finish at Newmarket.

20:14 Newmarket - Something Splendid @ 3/1

Both previous runnings of this race have been won by three-year-olds, and it could follow a similar pattern this time, with Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Something Splendid looking a leading contender.

He’s shown steady improvement as a three-year-old and arrives on the back of breaking his maiden at the ninth attempt — and crucially, that win came over this course and distance. He had already looked a winner in waiting, with a close second and third earlier in the season, and was finally rewarded for his consistency.

This is a more competitive race on paper, but he continues to run well, and the weight-for-age allowance could prove significant once again. He looks the pick of the three-year-olds and can go close.
