Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins (2)

Given the decidedly damp conditions I'm playing it safe (ish) once again on Friday, and looking to the all-weather for our Lucky 15 tips. It's not foolproof but there's a better chance of beating the elements, and regular readers (I wish) will know that I love the sand anyway.

So it's to Newcastle we happily travel for their NINE-race card on the Tapeta, that kicks in at 16:15. Competitive fare that's sure to be exciting. We were among the winners again on Thursday, so let's get cracking ...

Lucky 15 tips, Friday

Newcastle

  • 16:15 - Kinetic @ 11/4
  • 16:50 - Tiete @ 9/4
  • 19:30 - Turbo Command @ 7/1
  • 20:00 - Musical Diva @ 9/2

Today's Horse Races

16:15 - Kinetic @ 11/4

A three-year-old Kodiac filly in excellent fettle right now.

Newmarket handler James Owen trains, and the promising apprentice Sean D Bowen is in the plate. I believe it's his only booked ride on the card - a heavy hint in my eyes. Kinetic won emphatically in the grade and at around this trip eight days ago off 68, and must defy a 6lb hike.

Such was the manner of her win however that's entirely feasible, and Sean's 3lb claim offsets the penalty slightly. Time to strike while the iron is hot - she's progressive, and will need to continue in that vein.

Sean has won on her previously, and they obviously get along famously. He's been used of late by an impressive array of trainers and looks to have a very bright future.

16:50 - Tiete @ 9/4

Harry Charlton trains this two-year-old filly, another by Kodiac, and she looks primed to break her maiden in this nursery handicap.

Tiete has seen the racecourse on five occasions so far, with the last two being encouragingly the best. Nurseries at Newbury and Yarmouth in August and September, with top jocks Marquand and Doyle (James) engaged, yielded two close seconds.

She's sneaked up in the weights slightly for her consistency (runs off 74 today) but her profile is again progressive; and one of the north's finest in PJ McDonald has been engaged to do the steering.

Looks nicely weighted on 8st 13lb, and has for me a great chance.

19:30 - Turbo Command @ 7/1

Another of the north's finest jocks, Paul Mulrennan, is on board here for Scottish borders trainer Alison Hamilton.

Turbo Command is an experienced seven-year-old gelding who's won here previously, and after a break of 82 days ran a blinder at the track over a furlong less last time in mid-September, keeping on nicely without quite getting up (beaten just 1.5l).

He gets a mile perfectly well, and is very consistent. Paul is his usual partner, and the pair have scored here over 7f. Sound prospects then, for this son of US-sire War Command, in an open-looking heat.

20:00 - Musical Diva @ 9/2

About time we had a Danny Tudhope dabble - he's in effervescent form right now, and I'm getting the feeling that Musical Diva might just be about to explode, too.

Danny was on top 10 days ago at Beverley when David O'Meara's three-year-old filly was fourth, beaten 2l. She ran out of steam a little late in the piece on what is a very stiff, uphill finish.

The flatter plains of Gosforth Park can suit much better at the business end, though I suspect it might be a thought to temper her usual all guns blazing run-style in favour of a more conservative approach, perhaps?

Worth a shot, but she's got 6f well enough in the past (this is 5f) and it's Danny's job to find a way - one I've no doubt at all that he's got in hand. A timely challenge perhaps, late in the piece, after travelling in mid-div for a change? The tactics will be fascinating.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £310 for your total £7.50 stake.
