Lucky 15 Tips: Cox colt can take off at Southwell

I understand there will be inspections at both Musselburgh and Lingfield to ensure Friday's meetings can go ahead given the frosty forecasts, so it's to Southwell, fingers firmly crossed, that we'll venture for our Lucky 15 tips.

A nine-race card is scheduled to get underway at 16:30 and the Queen of Southwell, Hayley Turner, is due to be in attendance. It's sure to be super-competitive and lots of fun.

17:30 - Stardancer @ 11/4

Clive Cox and Richard Kingscote combine, with this twice-raced three-year-old Dark Angel colt.

Stardancer ran here 15 days ago at this 6f trip and was running on at the finish, beaten just 2.75l by a nice horse of the Crisfords. Having shown he handles this surface test, any anticipated improvement will make him a potent force on Friday.

An unraced Karl Burke/Clipper Logistics colt, also by Dark Angel, is the obvious danger but knowing the Tapeta terrain gives a nice advantage to our selection, under the Derby-winning Kingscote, the only person to have ridden him on the racecourse.

19:00 - Jessie Luc @ 13/2

Hayley gets the leg-up on Mike Murphy's five-year-old gelding, who almost a month ago reappeared at Chelmsford after a little break (187 days), finishing a respectable 4.5l behind the winner, over 7f.

Dropping back to a better-looking 6f today I think this current mark of 50, a career-low, can be exploited - and who better to engineer it than the magnificent Ms Turner, in her very own back yard.

Nine runs all told so far for Jessie Luc, a couple of places, but no wins. How about putting that right on Friday evening?

20:00 - Commander Crouch @ 7/2

The excellent Joanna Mason has a handsome book of rides, including this one for the red-hot North Yorkshire yard of Gemma Tutty (63% strike-rate in the last 14 days).

The four-year-old Mehmas gelding came close in a similar affair at Newcastle 17 days ago, going down by less than a length, under this pilot. Commander Crouch is up 2lb for that sterling effort, but it's worth noting that his sole win came off a mark of 75, in September '23, and off 57 today can strike for new connections, who only acquired the horse in November.

20:30 - Jaamir @ 9/2

A four-year-old gelded miler now by Hot Streak, trained by James Owen, and ridden by Callum Shepherd.

Jaamir looks to build upon a staying-on, close-up fourth in this grade at Chelmsford 15 days ago, at this one mile trip. That run followed a nice little freshening-up break of 93 days, and was a first try at stretching out over the eight furlongs from his four career starts to date.

It seemed to suit well, and as Chelmsford is a similar stamina test to here in terms of the need to really run through the line, I'm hopeful that the Newmarket raider can break his maiden in his second handicap, dropped a handy pound from his initial mark last time of 55.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
