Lucky 15 Tips: James can fan the flames

Rather cruelly, we had a good winner but two non-runners yesterday at Yarmouth, to cap a most enjoyable three days on the beach as it were. Meanwhile, plenty of the sport's big dogs are playing at Newbury, so it's the logical spot for our Lucky 15 tips on Friday, September 20.

The action kicks in at 13:25 for what is a terrific-looking, eight-race card.

13:55 - Fire Flame @ 10/3

Roger Varian and James Doyle team up for Division 2 of this 6f maiden.

Fire Flame is a two-year-old Wootton Bassett colt who's run twice, with credit, so far. He's finished his races well, at this trip, and we know his Group 1-winning sire got this and indeed 7f extremely strongly.

After a couple of sighters it might just be time for him to put his best foot forward and break that maiden tag.

15:30 - King Of Cities @ 9/4

A small but select field for a classy-looking two-year-old novice stakes heat.

The selection King Of Cities is a Dubawi colt with Richard Hannon, and hero of the Betfred St Leger Sean Levey is in the plate. Two runs so far - a close-up second at HQ, and a cosy win in one of these 20 days ago at Chester.

Looks to have plenty of ability, and this straight mile should hold no terrors. I think the others have him to beat, and I wouldn't swap for anything else.

16:05 - Lake Forest @ 9/4

Last season's Gimcrack winner, with a Listed contest now potentially at his mercy.

Tom Marquand rides, and William Haggas trains. Lightly-raced this term, he was second in a Group 3 here at 6f running on, 62 days ago. Looks primed and ready for this step up to 7f and there's some welcome stamina for this test on the dam's side as she's by El Prado, accomplished at around 7f/one mile.

Quality race this, and some nice types oppose the very promising Lake Forest.

16:40 - Beeley @ 8/1

A value play for me - a fairly highly-tried Gosden filly making her handicap debut.

Beeley stays this middle-distance 12f trip well, and having won on heavy 22 days ago won't mind any juice in the ground, which is forecast. Kieran Shoemark rides, and the Duke of Devonshire owns this three-year-old Camelot filly.
