Lucky 15

A good winner to report from Chelmsford last night, returned at 5/1, and a respectable second. Today's action (Friday Feb 2nd), comes from Catterick and Southwell (jumps), while there's all-weather flat entertainment provided by Lingfield, Dundalk and Newcastle.

An all-star cast are assembling in Surrey so it's to Lingfield we travel for today's Lucky 15 suggestion. If you're playing, the very best of luck, as always.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £357 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Friday

Lingfield

  • 13.47 - Dors Torboy @ 7/2
  • 14.17 - Influence @ 7/4
  • 14.47 - Something To Do @ 10/3
  • 16.20 - Darlo Pride @ 9/2

13.47 - Dors Torboy @ 7/2

7-yr-old course-and-distance scorer, in the care of Dean Ivory, and ridden by Rab Havlin. Glorious veterans all!

Dors Torboy ran well off a mark of 60 in December at Chelmsford, going down by 2.5l. He went to Wolverhampton just over month later and was beginning to make his challenge when hampered at the distance. He was heavily eased thereafter.

He's slipped down to a mark of 58 now and that's his lowest rating for some time. He's competitive at this lowly level, and for me is handicapped to strike soon. Let's hope Rab, from a lovely draw in the three box, can come up with a winning plan.

14.17 - Influence @ 7/4

Looking here at a well-bred George Boughey conveyance sporting the double green of Munir/Souede, narrowly beaten in three runs to date and with Billy Loughnane engaged. I'm sold, frankly.

Those three runs have been at sprint distances, and this gelded son of No Nay Never gets 7f today, which looks sure to suit. His dam was a daughter of the great Giant's Causeway, a quite brilliant, teak-tough 8-10 furlong champion, and this step up could be perfect.

Billy rode him last time over just 5f at Wolves and will know the horse much better this afternoon. A fascinating little maiden contest.

14.47 - Something To Do @ 10/3

Well; I tipped this one up the other day at Kempton, with Hollie Doyle on top (she rides again today). Ran an odd kind of race, on and off the steel, hanging, then running on when it was too late. She was heavily-backed, and very evidently has ability. Can Ms Doyle curb the waywardness shown then, and do the business today?

He drops down to ten furlongs from twelve, but for me that's of far less import than the greenness or concentration issues at play the last day. The handicapper has cruelly raised the horse 3lb for that erratic second-placed effort but he's got an engine. Can Hollie finesse it appropriately, with that lovely racing weight of 8st 4lb to help?

16.20 - Darlo Pride @ 9/2

A course-and-distance class-dropping scorer whose turn, in my book, is near.

Darlo Pride is a 4-yr-old gelding, trained by Anthony Carson, and ridden today by his son William. The trainer/jockey breeding is impeccable - former five-times champion and multiple Classic-winning pilot Willie is Dad/Grandad to the pair.

He seems equally adept at 5f or 6f, and it's the minimum today. Class 6 is the grade, and he's been competing at one notch higher the last twice. The handicapper's also popped him down a pound to 62 which can't do any harm.

He last won off 55 but is in-form, well-drawn in three, and being out of a Kyllachy mare it's certainly no surprise that he can motor a bit.

Good luck!
