Do not use lucky 15

We didn't in all honesty pull up any trees with yesterday's L15, but it's onwards and upwards for Friday's incarnation. Oh yes. Let's take a look down Newbury way - it's where many of the big dogs will be playing, and it's a brilliant, fair track where hard-luck stories are well-nigh unheard of.

Newbury is one of the relatively few that wouldn't benefit from a cutaway, in contrast to Goodwood and Chester in particular, where they should be compulsory in my humble opinion. Wonderful courses, but a bit too unnecessarily hairy in the last couple of furlongs on occasion, when the cutaway is NOT deployed. Lucky 15 tips then for Friday August 16 arrive fresh from Berkshire, where the fun begins in earnest at 14:05.

Lucky 15 Tips Friday

Newbury

  • 14:05 - Rare Change @ 5/2
  • 14:40 - Musical Angel @ 3/1
  • 15:15 - Isambard Brunel @ 10/3
  • 15:45 - Lady Of Andros @ 9/2

14:05 - Rare Change @ 5/2

A 6f nursery handicap for two-year-olds - and a selection who hails from the Richard Hughes yard.

The former champion jockey has had four winners over the last fortnight and this Mehmas colt has had five spins all told - showing plenty of promise.

Last time at Goodwood a fortnight ago in a much stronger grade Rare Change was beaten just over 2l, running on, and this represents for me a far more straightforward task. The jam on the top of the cream? The engagement of one Ryan Lee Moore to do the steering. I rest my case ...

14:40 - Musical Angel @ 3/1

More 6f two-year-olds, this time in a novice stakes contest.

Musical Angel sports the famous Jeff Smith silks, and is trained by Andrew Balding. Dave Probert is in the plate.

One run so far, a very fine effort at Ascot behind Miss Fascinator, who has subsequently run well at HQ in a well-endowed nursery. The Dark Angel filly has no fancy entries but given she rather muffed the start in that debut spin she must have a fine chance, with improvement highly likely.

15:15 - Isambard Brunel @ 10/3

Famous name, unknown quantity. A two-year-old unraced Justify colt in the Derrick Smith silks, raiding from Ballydoyle.

Aidan won't be sending Isambard Brunel over for the Berkshire air. He's got some fancy entries that include the Dewhurst, so familiarising the horse with trips to this side of the pond could be part of the plan. The mile trip should be perfect at this stage.

Windlord and King's Charter are formidable foes with a little precious experience, but I'm hoping this is one of the lads' good 'uns.

15:45 - Lady Of Andros @ 9/2

Ryan Moore is again up top, and this time for the legendary French maestro Andre Fabre.

Lady Of Andros is a two-year-old Ardad filly out of a Kingmambo mare. This is a Listed 5f sprint and she was a good second in a similar affair 13 days ago at Deauville returning a very smart Racing Post rating.

Andre is giving his filly every chance engaging Ryan, and he rarely pops over here without something very decent indeed.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £389 for your total £7.50 stake.
