Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

It's the second day of the Betfred St Leger Festival at Doncaster, and the eve of Saturday's big race, the season's final Classic. In the meantime before we enjoy the Betfred St Leger itself tomorrow there are two Group races on Friday to savour, and a superb supporting card.

Here goes - fabulous fare from South Yorkshire that we're thrilled to be associated with. Friday's Lucky 15 tips then - with the action kicking in at 13:50.

Lucky 15 Tips, Friday

Doncaster

  • 13:50 - Shadow Dance @ 10/3
  • 15:00 - Big Mojo @ 10/3
  • 15:35 - Sweet William @ 15/8
  • 17:20 - Far Above The Law @ 11/2

Today's Horse Races

13:50 - Shadow Dance @ 10/3

Roger Varian's talented four-year-old has 10st 2lb and a mark of 100 to defy in this tasty staying heat.

Shadow Dance took a similar-level contest at York three weeks ago but stretches out a further 2.5f today. James Doyle is on board and his partner won't mind a bit of juice in the ground, as seems highly likely.

Career-high performance last time, but it's still only his fourth run of the season and there could well be more to come. Cracking contest.

15:00 - Big Mojo @ 10/3

It's time for the Big Evs connections to try to replicate his win in this famous juvenile sprint last term with a talented stablemate.

Big Mojo looks every bit as promising, and despite understandably still looking a tad green ran a blinder in York's Gimcrack three weeks ago, beaten just 2l. One of the placed horses has come out and won a Group 3 at Kempton since and the form looks rock-solid.

'Evs' won this off 108 last term, and 'Mojo' looks to do similar off 106. Huge chance, and the great Silvestre De Sousa rides for Mick Appleby and the RP Racing Ltd owners.

15:35 - Sweet William @ 15/8

Wonderful, game and consistent five-year-old Sea The Stars gelding who stretches out further than his famous sire, and who shows plenty of his quality.

Sweet William keeps company with the top echelons of staying types these days and took a Sandown Group 3 in May before running into the imperious Kyprios twice (ouch) at Ascot (Gold Cup) and Goodwood.

Aidan's superstar isn't in opposition today but some game old favourites are. Wouldn't trade the Normandie Stud-owned thoroughbred for any of them though, and he won't mind any juice in the ground either. Fabulous race.

17:20 - Far Above The Law @ 11/2

A very warm 6f two-year-old nursery with a wide-open look to it.

The selection is Far Above The Law, for Alice Haynes and jockey Kieran O'Neill. At York's Ebor meeting a few weeks ago the Far Above gelding ran a blinder, going down by just half-a-length chasing a pot in excess of £50k.

He's actually down a couple of grades here but races off a mark 3lb higher, totally understandable and possibly slightly lenient. This is career run number seven so there's valuable experience to draw upon there, and I think he's got a fantastic chance.

If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £400 for your total £7.50 stake.
