Lucky 15

Friday already - and another promising effort to report from yesterday. Two further winners, 11/4 and 7/4 (four of the last 8 selections have won), and we covered ourselves nicely.

Cracking racing today - jumps action from Naas, Huntingdon, Wincanton and Sedgefield - while there's all-weather entertainment provided by Wolverhampton and Dundalk.

It's to the Midlands we'll journey for Friday's Lucky 15, on the Tapeta, at Wolverhampton.

This is an example of how to put together a Lucky 15 - if you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £260 for your total £7.50 stake.

Popular legend confirms that Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. Want the lowdown - all the ins and outs? My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.

Lucky 15 tips, Friday

Wolverhampton

  • 17.00 - Conquest Of Power @ 4/1
  • 18.30 - Better @ 13/8
  • 19.00 - Sybil Charm @ 2/1
  • 20.30 - Lunarscape @ 4/1

17.00 - Conquest Of Power @ 4/1

A Class 6 handicap over 7f.

Conquest Of Power is a 4-yr-old Cityscape gelding out of a Shamardal mare. Broke his maiden at Sandown eighteen months ago over 5f and hasn't struck since, racing over trips ranging from the minimum to a tilt last time at 7f.

Seemed to stay well enough and in fact was doing his best work at the finish. Breeding-wise, the trip should hold no terrors, and he tries it again today. Had no luck in running at Kempton on that last effort and looks dangerously well-handicapped to me off 60.

He's been rated as high as 76 in the past and trainer Mark Usher had two seconds at Chelmsford yesterday.

18.30 - Better @ 13/8

One of our go-to combos - trainer George Boughey and jockey Billy Loughnane.

The 3-yr-old Better raised his game considerably here in early December at today's 6f trip, after being campaigned in his previous starts over a mile. He scooted up by 3l, and the handicapper was certainly impressed. He's up a whopping 11lbs for that bloodless romp.

Raised also to a Class 5 he needs to confirm the promise shown but I think it's well within compass. The trainer and jockey are among the sport's leading lights over the last 12 months or so and I'm extremely interested to see how Better backs up that last performance.

This will only be his 5th career start and the Due Diligence gelding could give connections lots of fun going forward.

19.00 - Sibyl Charm @ 2/1

A raider from the Dumfries and Galloway yard of Iain Jardine.

4-yr-old filly, and a good second last time in the grade (5) at Newcastle. She's run in higher levels previously and began life with the great Joseph O'Brien in County Kilkenny.

The handicapper was impressed by that last effort (beaten 2l+, never getting there), putting her up a pound to 67. She was narrowly denied off 82 in Ireland and if/when finding anything like that kind of form she'll be extremely dangerous off her present mark.

20.30 - Lunarscape @ 4/1

Another horse by Cityscape; this time a 4-yr-old filly who's been in fine form of late without quite getting her head in front.

Joined Mark Loughnane in November from Eve Johnson Houghton - and has had one run for new connections so far, 16 days ago here, beaten 3l. Coming down in the handicap steadily from a high of 76, she races off 67 today, and it could be time to strike.

Broke her maiden at Goodwood no less, and certainly has ability.
