Lingfield park racecourse

There is a bumper eight-race card on the all-weather at Lingfield on Wednesday afternoon, and our three best bets at the meeting are highlighted here.

Among our best Lingfield Park tips for Wednesday, January 22 is a well-drawn seven-year-old in the opening 1m2f handicap for amateur riders.

Lingfield Park Tips - Wednesday, January 22

  • 12:25 - Meadram @ 7/2
  • 12:55 - Mister McGregor @ 5/2
  • 13:25 - Harry Brown @ 7/2

12:25 - Meadram @ 7/2

Twelve runners are set to leave the stalls in the opening Class 5 1m2f handicap for amateur jockeys on the AW from Lingfield on Wednesday afternoon, and the well-drawn MEADRAM makes plenty of appeal.

There is a distinct lack of confirmed pace in this contest, so any horse that likes to race prominently may hold a tactical edge, particularly if exiting from a low draw.

Meadram is representing Marcus Tregoning, with Miss Alice Tregoning continuing in the saddle, and claiming 5lb.

The Mukhadram gelding raced prominently throughout when returning from a break to finish a short-head second of 13 over this trip on Chelmsford’s Polytrack last month.

He was given a 2lb rise to a new mark of 63 for that latest display in Essex, but Racing Post Ratings awarded a figure of 70 for that effort, so he is likely to be difficult to beat if at least reproducing that level of form.

Encouragingly, in April 2022 Meadram posted an even better RPR of 73 when a close third of nine over this course and distance from a 3lb higher official rating of 66.

12:55 - Mister McGregor @ 5/2

MISTER MCGREGOR has decent winning claims when contesting the eight-runner Class 5 7f novice contest for three to five-year-olds, representing Andrew Balding with Hayley Turner continuing in the saddle.

Balding is 4-25 (16 per cent) in the past 14 days, and he has a 19 per cent strike-rate when racing three-year-olds on this course.

The Harry Angel gelding reached a close second of nine over this course and distance on New Year’s Eve, despite racing too keenly from a poor draw early on.

Mister McGregor is drawn more favourably in stall two on this occasion, and he is capable of going one place better, if distributing his energies more efficiently through the race on this occasion.

13:25 - Harry Brown @ 7/2

Finally, HARRY BROWN, is extremely well treated on the pick of his course-and-distance form when contesting the nine-runner Class 5 5f handicap for older horses.

The Harry Angel gelding is wearing a first-time tongue-tie, four days after taking a step back in the right direction in reaching an about three-length third of seven over this course and distance.

The five-year-old has plenty of back-class to tap into, if continuing to revive.

In June 2024, he finished a length third of six over this course and distance in a better-class handicap from a mark of 82, some 18lb higher than the 64-rating he competes off on Wednesday.

13:25 Lingfield - Winner Harry Brown
