King Charles III Stakes Tips: Believe in Boughey’s charge

There is Group 1 sprint action at Royal Ascot on Tuesday with the King Charles III Stakes run over the minimum trip of five furlongs.
A field of 23 runners are set to go to post and my King Charles III Stakes tips focus on a horse who threatened to win a top-level sprint on more than one occasion last season.

15:40 Royal Ascot - Believing @ 9/2
Believing proved a tough and super consistent sprinter last season and George Boughey’s mare looks to hold every chance in the King Charles III Stakes.
The speedy five-year-old finished runner-up in the Nunthrope at York and the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh, both over the minimum trip last season.
She was twice beaten by Bradsell in those Group 1 contests, but Archie Watson’s runner isn’t in opposition in the King Charles III Stakes and there are reasons to think Believing was a little unfortunate not to get her head in front in at least one of those meetings.
Boughey’s runner had to make up plenty of ground from a moderate draw at the Curragh, while Bradsell was able to break well and make hay up the preferred near side.
Of course, strong finishing is a trademark of Believing. The mare often comes with a strong late run, as was the case when she didn’t get a clear passage when finishing third in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp at the end of last season.
However, there are reasons to think that the five-year-old may be able to stay closer to the pace at Ascot.
Believing returned to action to win over six furlongs at Meydan in April, and while the form of that race isn’t strong enough to translate to a Group 1 success at Ascot, it was interesting that jockey William Buick was able to sit closer to the pace.
The five-year-old is back down to the minimum trip at Ascot, but Ryan Moore, who takes the ride, may be able to keep the mare within striking range which would then allow her deadly finishing speed to come into play.
Believing’s form figures in Group 1 sprints reads 30944223 and there looks to be every chance of Boughey’s charge adding a one to her record in the King Charles III Stakes.

15:40 Royal Ascot - Rumstar each-way @ 22/1
At the bigger price, Rumstar looks worthy of each-way support. Jonathan Portman’s sprinter ran a decent race in the Temple Stakes at Haydock last time out, but that track doesn’t bring the best out of the five-year-old and he is better judged on earlier efforts.
Rumstar bolted up in a listed race over five furlongs at Ascot in October, before winning the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.
Portman’s charge had She's Quality and Washington Heights comfortably held at Newmarket, which suggests Rumstar didn’t show his best when that duo reversed the form in the Temple stakes at Haydock.
The five-year-old’s record over five furlongs reads 6,1,1,11,1,4,3,1,2 and Rumstar could prove the toast of punters in the King Charles III Stakes.
