Jump racing generic

There are busy times for racing fans on Thursday, with as many as seven meetings scheduled across the UK and Ireland, including a mix of Flat and jumps fare.

Amongst it is the evening card from Killarney, one of Ireland's most picturesque courses, where they race from 17:02-20:15 with conditions forecast to be Good, Good to firm in places at the Co Kerry layout. Read on for my Killarney tips for Thursday, which includes Tyson Fury on his first start over timber for new trainer Denis Hogan.

Killarney Tips - Thursday, July 18

  • 17:02 - Tyson Fury @ 5/6
  • 18:37  - Papa Barns @ 9/2
  • 19:10 - Red Glory @ 7/1

Today's Horse Races

17:02 - Tyson Fury @ 5/6

The action gets underway via the Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa Maiden Hurdle over an extended two-and-a-half-miles and the Willie Mullins-trained My Great Mate looks set to dominate the market.

He finished second at Punchestown (2m3½f, good) last month on hurdles bow, travelling best in front but getting reeled in late on by Donnie Devito.

He'll have sound claims again, but jumping newcomer TYSON FURY is a rock-solid proposal for Denis Hogan.

The Qatar Racing inmate was a very useful performer on the level, maintaining a three-figure rating, and was far from disgraced at Royal Ascot last month in the Copper Horse Handicap after a near miss previous to that in a €30k handicap at the Curragh.

He goes jumping for the first time here and could be a more than useful recruit to this sphere, so he's worth opposing the Mullins hotpot with now

18:37  - Papa Barns @ 9/2

Lots of the field in the Kerry Drain Services Handicap Hurdle are exposed sorts and one who might have a decent chance is PAPA BARNS off the back of a runner-up finish at Punchestown last month.

Tom Dreaper's charge is now 0-14 over timber, but has made the frame on four occasions. He has been campaigned over a variety of trips from 2m-3m, but his best efforts do appear to have come at intermediate distances.

He moved well in that contest last time, coming from the rear to mount a challenge at the second last when seemingly still full of running and was unfortunate that winner Flashthelights just had too much in hand.

From an unchanged mark this time the seven-year-old could well go one better.

19:10 - Red Glory @ 7/1

RED GLORY tackles the KPH Construction Handicap Hurdle over 2m1f for Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore and must have a strong chance following back-to-back runner-up finishes lately.

He was back from a short break when second-best at Tipperary over 2m in mid-May and then occupied the same berth last month at Downpatrick over this slightly longer trip.

Having looked somewhat unfortunate not to win at Tipperary, Red Glory had no real reason for complaint last time, seemingly outstayed on the stiff finish at the northern venue.

This less demanding finish should play into his strengths today, while Blackmore taking over in the saddle once more is another positive and he remains on a very fair mark.
