Five meetings are planned across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday and our focus is on Kempton’s bumper nine-race card.
The going at Kempton is expected to be standard to slow on the Polytrack and the first race is due to go to post at 16:30.
Betfred’s “Extra Place” promotion is available in races at 17:00, 19:00, 20:00 and 20:30, with the latter the final contest on Wednesday’s card.
16:30 – Love Story @ 3/1
Connections of Love Story have had to bide their time and the daughter of Frankel has yet to compete in a race ahead of Wednesday’s contest.
The three-year-old has been carefully managed by John & Thady Gosden and she is bred exceptionally well. She is a half-sister to US Grade 1 winner Max Player, as well as Group 2 scorer Seahenge.
Gosden and the owners have clearly plotted their path carefully and the fact she runs so late as a three-year-old suggests that they are confident she can start with a win at Kempton.
17:00 – Fleur De Mer @ 7/1
Hugo Palmer and his team will look to make it two wins in two with Fleur De Mer when they head to Kempton.
The daughter of Dark Angel and Hespera has won two of her last three starts, and whatever Palmer and his team have done has worked a treat.
Fleur De Mer won at Wolverhampton at the end of July before finishing second at Chelmsford at the start of August.
After a month’s rest, Fleur De Mer finished first at Newcastle as the 15/8 favourite, and she has only been handed a 4lb penalty for that success.
Mordor remains the biggest threat under the hands of Oisin Murphy, but Richard Kingscote will fancy his chances on board Palmer’s mount.
18:30 – Mischief Magic @ 11/10
After finishing down the field in his last two races, Mischief Magic should be able to bounce back when he runs at Kempton for the first time since September 2022.
Charlie Appleby’s charge has finished eighth in his last two outings, but they came at Group 3 and Group 1 level.
In June, Mischief Magic finished eighth in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, but connections decided to geld him just days after that run.
Mischief Magic, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last year, is rated 4b clear of his nearest rival, Brad the Brief. Appleby’s charge should regain some confidence with a win on Wednesday and it is hard to look past him for this race.
