Kempton Park All-Weather

Today's Horse Races come from six meetings, including an evening fixture on Kempton's Polytrack among them. They've got eight races there, from 17:00-20:40.

My Kempton Park Tips includes a runner for trainer James Owen who goes back on the all-weather after some forgivable turf disappointments.

Kempton Park Tips

  • 17:00 - Tenyatta @ 17/2
  • 17:35 - Mammy @ 8/1
  • 19:40 - Dembe @ 9/2

17:00 - Tenyatta @ 17/2

The opening apprentice handicap over 7f could shape up well for the James Owen-trained TENYATTA.

The Eqtidaar filly was a winner at Wolverhampton in April over this trip, impressing in the manner she swept home late after a tardy start in what was her first outing after joining this trainer from Jamie Osborne.

She was confidently ridden but perhaps too much so in her follow-up attempt at Dunstall Park 10 days later, circling wide round the field on the home bend but unable to reach the front pair as she settled for a bronze medal.

There have been excuses since in three runs on turf. She didn't appear to see things out at Brighton and Bath, while at Yarmouth last time over a mile the soft ground might have been a contributing factor.

Back on the all-weather, this mark of 47 is just 1lb higher than for that Wolverhampton win in the spring and she has the excellent Sean Bowen for company for the first time on a synthetic surface.

The way she rattled home at Wolverhampton over this trip gives her an excellent chance at this track back down in trip.

17:35 - Mammy @ 8/1

Callum Shepherd was amongst the Royal Ascot winners last week and few successes were as popular after he lost the ride on leading Derby contender Ambiente Friendly before the colt eventually finished second at Epsom.

Shepherd took a stoic view of that decision at the time, opting to say little, and the racing gods looked favourably with that first Royal Ascot success as Isle Of Jura powered home in the Hardwicke Stakes.

Mum's the word once more for Shepherd at Kempton as he looks to deliver a breakthrough win on Michael Bell's filly MAMMY.

The daughter of Bated Breath is a six-race maiden, but she returned from her winter slumber with a couple of near misses at Wolverhampton over this 7f trip in the spring having moved into handicaps.

She wasn't quite as good since in one turf run at Windsor but returns to the synthetics here and has leading claims in a very open looking fillies' handicap.

19:40 - Dembe @ 9/2

DEMBE hasn't been with trainer Simon Pearce for too long and might be ready to notch the fifth all-weather win of his career now.

He's twice run well over this course and distance in two runs for his new trainer, with a below-par effort in between at Lingfield over 7f. He is now 6lb below his previous winning mark.

When he visited here a fortnight ago, he found himself with plenty of ground to make up inside the final two-furlongs, but made good late gains to be denied only three-parts of a length at the line.

Both the winner and the third have come and won since and this six-year-old should be rewarded soon for his pleasing form.
