Kempton park all-weather

There are just three meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday. Catterick holds a jumps card while there’s all-weather action in the south from Lingfield and Kempton.

We focus on Kempton’s evening card here where the action kicks off at 17:30 and we have three selections with analysis on the seven-race card.

Today's Horse Races

18:00 Kempton - Classic Speed @ 11/2

Kempton Park’s all-weather circuit is often a speed favouring track, particularly when the going is standard to slow which has been the case in recent times.

One that looks capable of running a big race from the front on Wednesday is Classic Speed

whose two previous wins have come over this course and distance. His latest success came when bolting up in October and a subsequent debut over timber at the Surrey track is easily forgiven.

An 8lb rise for October’s success certainly looks workable given the four-and-a-quarter-length winning margin and he did well to keep up the gallop from the front having run some respectable early sectionals for the grade in the first half of the race.

Stall three is ideal for his preferred front-running tactics and this son of Kodiac is still relatively lightly raced for a five year old, having just his 15th start on the level.

With potentially more to come on this surface and a course of distance record of two wins from three starts, he deserves to be outright favourite for this contest, particularly with Callum Shepherd taking over in the saddle, a jockey that is riding the crest of a wave since his return from a lengthy injury lay-off around the turn of the year.

20:00 Kempton - Civil Law @ 18/1

The feature race on the card has eight runners declared and if the field stand their ground, Civil Law might be worth chancing each-way.

This six-time all-weather winner has done most of his winning at Wolverhampton but he ran a big race at this venue when beaten roughly three lengths finishing a never near fifth on his penultimate start and he was well backed for his subsequent run at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day when not getting a strong enough pace to run at.

Young Joe Leavy is cracking value for the 3lb he is still able to claim and the handicapper has started to relent, dropping him another 2lb.

20:30 Kempton - Percy Jones @ 9/1

The finale on Kempton’s card looks competitive but one that may have been underestimated in the market is Percy Jones.

Mark Loughnane’s charge ran a crack over a trip that’s probably short of his best when beaten a length at Wolverhampton last month.

He was a winner over this trip from just 3lb lower earlier this winter and he shaped like he would relish a return to two miles last time out. Luke Morris, who has been amongst the winners of late, retains the ride and he should be capable of obtaining a good position from the inside gate (1).
