There’s a big nine-race all-weather card at Kempton on Wednesday evening, kicking off with an apprentice handicap at 16:05 and concluding with a Class 6 middle-distance contest at 20:10.

Read on for our Kempton Park tips for Wednesday, December 18.

Kempton Park Tips - Wednesday, December 18

  • 16:05 - The Glen Rovers @ 6/4
  • 17:10 - Charlie Mason @ 11/4
  • 19:40 - Monsieur Patat each-way @ 12/1

16:05 - The Glen Rovers @ 6/4

Course form often counts for plenty, particularly on the idiosyncratic all-weather tracks and one horse that has been in fine form around Kempton Park this winter is The Glen Rovers.

This five-year-old didn’t make his debut on the level until May this year but he’s been making up for lost time over the last six months, winning three races on synthetic surfaces and progressing 16lb up the ratings since losing his maiden tag on handicap debut at Newcastle back in July.

While he failed to fire in his follow-up bid on turf, a return to the all-weather saw him get his head back in front when having his first start at this track in September. He was a bit too keen over this course and distance back in October but still ran creditably to finish a close-up third from off the pace. He then followed up over a slightly shorter trip here last time when justifying favouritism with Sean D Bowen taking over for the first time.

That rider is in the saddle again here and in a race confined to apprentice riders, his booking looks noteworthy. Furthermore, the yard arrive in cracking form with a couple of recent winners over jumps and a 6lb rise could underestimate this son of Dark Angel who bids for a fourth win in his last five all-weather starts here.

17:10 - Charlie Mason @ 11/4

Charlie Mason only has one win from 10 starts on the all-weather but he ran a cracker when runner-up at Southwell last week and appears to have strong claims of going one place better.

Tony Carroll’s charge has been running well in defeat since winning at Windsor early in the season and he met a fair bit of trouble in running when well backed for his recent second at Southwell.

That’s not gone unnoticed by the handicapper who has put him up 2lb in the weights but that new mark doesn’t come into effect until next week, so he’s 2lb well in here. There’s a good chance he’ll get a decent pace to aim at and his previous all-weather win came at this venue.

19:40 - Monsieur Patat each-way @ 12/1

There’s plenty of pace in the feature race on the card and it might set up nicely for a hold-up performer.

Monsieur Patat has already won twice on the all-weather this year and he’s shaped with promise in his last couple of starts without managing to threaten in the closing stages.

He’s only 2lb above his last winning handicap mark now and may represent some value at decent odds.

This is a Super Extra Place race, meaning that Betfred are paying 4 Places instead of 3 (1/5 Odds).
