We have a Wednesday on the cards, with five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland - including an all-weather affair from Kempton Park that runs from 16:13-20:15.

I've put together a handful of Kempton Park tips, including a Charlie Fellowes-trained handicap debutante who is yet to taste defeat.

Kempton Park Tips - Wednesday, October 16

  • 16:45 – Northern Blaze @ 9/2
  • 18:45 – Ever Hopefull @ 13/2
  • 19:45 – Minnie Wildes @ 11/10

16:45 – Northern Blaze @ 9/2

The entire field is looking to get off the mark in this 0-60 nursery and some runners are less exposed than others. Kevin Philippart De Foy’s D Day Harley R is worth keeping an eye on after showing improvement on his handicap debut last time out but NORTHERN BLAZE, making his first start in handicap company, gets the nod from us.

Tom Ward’s gelding finished down the field behind subsequent Group 2 winner Bay City Roller at Sandown on his penultimate start which isn’t to be sniffed at.

Fifth when upped to a mile over course and distance next time, the first three home look like useful types and he just lacked the necessary turn of foot required to mix it in that company.

Switching to handicaps looks like the right move and an opening mark of 62 looks fairly reasonable. We’ll learn plenty more about him here but it’s reasonable to expect significant improvement and Sean Levey’s mount can go close.

18:45 – Ever Hopefull @ 13/2

Another handicap debutant, the thrice-raced EVER HOPEFUL has improved with every start. William Haggas’ filly has been given a generous-looking opening mark of 69 and her profile suggests she could be a good deal better than that.

She looked a little outpaced on her debut over a mile at Newmarket but kept on well enough without ever threatening. Keenness was her issue when third at Nottingham next time but she still got a lot closer.

Her best effort undoubtedly came at Beverley last time out and she was just a length-and-a-half away from the winner that day.

Clearly we can expect further progress here, especially upon switching to handicaps and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark.

19:45 – Minnie Wildes @ 11/10

Only six runners have been declared for this 6f handicap but it's fiercely competitive and should be a fascinating watch. Charlie Fellowes runs MINNIE WILDES and the daughter of Bated Breath is yet to taste defeat.

She dealt really well with the heavy ground at Ffos Las on her debut and was always up with the pace, before pulling easily clear to win by six lengths. The result never looked in doubt and she travelled like a dream throughout, winning in the style of a smart filly.

That performance clearly wasn’t a fluke as she ran out an impressive winner once again at Newcastle next time. Fellowes’ three-year-old made all the running and won by a wide margin despite being eased down before the line.

An opening mark of 80 looks like a very reasonable judged on those two runs and a similar performance will surely lead to further success here.
