Kempton Park All-Weather

We have a very busy day of racing action on our hands on Thursday, with seven meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland to cater for everyone’s tastes. The sole all-weather fixture of the day takes place at Kempton (17:15-20:45), where there will be a seven-race card and the going is expected to be standard to slow.

We’ve picked out our three best bets of the meeting, which includes James Fanshawe’s progressive handicapper Cracksking, who should be up to winning more races.

Today's Horse Races

17:50 – Juneberry @ 9/2

This is an interesting race and it would be no surprise if it ends up producing several subsequent winners. There are several lively candidates here, including Place Of Safety and Everywhere, but it’s JUNEBERRY that gets the nod from us.

John & Thady Gosden’s filly has had three starts to date and has shown plenty of promise in each of them. Making her debut over a mile at Lingfield in October, she was a little one-paced but was only three lengths behind the winner in sixth.

Her next start is perhaps her best effort as there was no disgrace in finishing third behind a couple of smart Charlie Appleby-trained prospects. One would imagine there’s nothing of their quality in this race, so a similar effort would give her every chance.

With that in mind, it was a little disappointing to see her get beaten when second at Doncaster last time out. We’re prepared to give her another chance, however, and she should be bang in the mix with James Doyle on board.

19:00 – Cabinet Of Clowns @ 6/1

The mile handicap looks like a fiercely competitive race and the powerful Sir Michael Stoute and Roger Varian yards are represented. They run Pumalin Park and Indemnity respectively, who both won last time out.

Eve Johnson Houghton’s CABINET OF CLOWNS could be the one to take them on with and he should be very competitive off this mark. Fifth at Newmarket on his seasonal debut, he shaped as if he needed the run and we can expect a sharper finishing effort this time round.

His last victory came off a 2lb lower mark at Chepstow in August, but he was second by a head off 80 in September and should therefore be capable of scoring off this sort of rating. Billy Loughnane is on board here and a return to the winners’ enclosure shouldn’t be ruled out.

19:35 – Cracksking @ 5/4

Kempton’s feature race is the 1m4f handicap and it could well be one for favourite backers. CRACKSKING won his maiden at Newcastle in good style back in October and the second has boosted the form by winning since.

James Fanshawe’s gelding has been progressive in handicaps this term and was unlucky not to get up when second at Newbury on his penultimate start.

He made no mistake over course and distance next time and he comfortably got the better of The Goat, who is in opposition once again and is expected to confirm the form. A 5lb rise doesn’t look excessive and this son of Frankel can continue on an upward trajectory.
