Kempton Park Racecourse

There's lots of racing action in store on Monday with six meetings across Britain and Ireland to kick-start the new week.

There's plenty of afternoon fare – with jumps cards from Hexham, Ffos Las and Tramore alongside Flat cards at Pontefract and Windsor – while they also go over obstacles at Kempton Park into the evening. The Kempton card runs from 15:48-19:30, with eight races in all, and we've got a trio of fancied runners to consider in our Kempton Park tips.

Kempton Park Tips - Monday, April 22

  • 16:20 - Orchestra @ 11/4
  • 17:25 - Sanitiser @ 2/1
  • 19:00 - Mojo Ego @ 4/1

16:20 - Orchestra @ 11/4

Recent Huntingdon chase winner Ferrybridge is respected back over timber for trainer James Owen but ORCHESTRA is marginally preferred for Fergal O'Brien.

The Gloucestershire-based handler is now adapting to life without long-time ally Paddy Brennan after he announced his retirement from the saddle at Cheltenham last week.

Johnny Burke looks set to be a major beneficiary from the spare rides going, though no official announcement on a stable jockey has come yet.

He gets the leg up on this gelded son of Golden Horn now on handicap bow. He was twice runner-up in juvenile hurdles at Taunton and Warwick after Christmas and perhaps three runs in a relatively short period caught up with him when he was disappointing at Ludlow in early February.

He's been given a short break since and now goes into handicaps off a mark of 100. The useful Flat performer should be capable of registering in this code before long and may hit the ground running on handicap bow.

17:25 - Sanitiser @ 2/1

Quite the rarity here with the Novices' Handicap Hurdle split into three divisions after 29 runners were declared. SANITISER can land the third division for handler Gary Moore with Caoilin Quinn taking 3lb off in the saddle.

He was consistent but unable to score in four hurdles starts for previous trainer Archie Watson but, after a spin around Goodwood on the Flat in October to blow off the cobwebs, ran a good fourth over this C&D on his first attempt over jumps for this trainer.

That was a stronger race than the one he finds himself in now and a similar level of form should bring him close to shedding the maiden tag over timber.

19:00 - Mojo Ego @ 4/1

A Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle in which recent winner MOJO EGO looks sure to play a leading role for the Harry Derham team in the hands of Alice Stevens.

The four-year-old Intello gelding had eight starts, including two over hurdles, before leaving his native France to join this up-and-coming trainer last summer.

He ran fourth on stable bow over course and distance after a break in October and has since won 2-3 starts.

At Kelso last month he drew clear with eventual second Camarrate and scored with 4½-lengths to spare at the line. That form has advertised positively since as the Donald McCain-trained runner-up scored at Fakenham at the start of this month.

This opening mark of 117 could be lenient for Mojo Ego as he makes his first foray into a handicap.
