Eight races to look forward to on Kempton’s all-weather Polytrack surface on Friday afternoon. The action takes place from 16.40 – 20.15.

Murphy, Buick, Ryan – more top jocks that you could shake a ProCush at.

Decent fields, competitive contests. Should make for an excellent afternoon/early evening in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Kempton 16.40 Grand Karat @ 5/2

An interesting 7f novice for 2-yr-olds with some fancy yards represented. Could be very informative, going forward.

A stable in fine order at present is that of the Charltons, and their Grand Karat ticks plenty of boxes. Two fine performances thus far in this kind of company at Haydock and Newbury – top Grade One tracks, with ultra-competitive racing.

Makes his Polytrack debut on Friday and though running green on debut he stepped up on his second run and this son of Gleneagles can make it third time lucky.

So many powerful yards oppose but he’s got everything required in my view to break his maiden.

Kempton 17.45 Venus Rosewater @ 7/4

Venus Rosewater is my selection – highly appropriate for this fillies’ novice race, as the trophy presented annually to the Wimbledon’s Ladies Singles’ champion bears the same name.

This is a beautifully-bred daughter of Frankel – what a dominant sire he is – and has had three very pleasing runs to date. All at around a mile, and showing progressive form. Owned by Bjorn Nielsen, of Stradivarius fame, she’s trained by the Gosdens, and will be a very valuable commodity at the paddocks when her career is done if she can add a little magic to her CV.

Godolphin field a couple of dangers but I wouldn’t swop her for anything in the field.
