Janidil Grand National Odds 2024: Lofty mark an issue for Mullins contender

Outsiders do win the Grand National. Not many saw Noble Yeats at 80/1 crossing the line first back in 2022 and we’ve seen other sensational winners of big races. Who can forget the final alternate Rich Strike getting into the Kentucky Derby field and, as the rank outsider, stunning everyone with a magic run down the stretch? So if you have been allocated this horse, don’t give up hope just yet.

Now I have to go into his recent form and this is the point where you should probably skip and live in hope.

Last time out, he was sent out in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and went off as the 66/1 outsider of 12, well he did outperform those odds, finishing 11th as Sir Gerhard weakened late, but Janidil was never remotely in it and made absolutely no impression, finishing 30 lengths behind the eventual winner Teahupoo.

The reason for such a high weight from the handicapper is primarily due to good form two to three years ago. He spent 2021 and 2022 either winning or placing in really good company over in Ireland, including a trip over the Irish Sea to the Cheltenham Festival, where he finished second to Allaho in the Ryanair Chase.

Recent form, however, has been pretty abject and all logic indicates that he may have been a contender back in 2021 or 2022 but now we are in 2024, this has come a little bit too late in his career.
