Huntingdon scaled

A six-pack of meetings make up the Tuesday quota of racing across Britain and Ireland and fans of National Hunt racing will be focusing on Huntingdon for the evening offering. The Cambridgeshire circuit has a six-race programme, with racing from 18:10-20:40 and ground conditions forecast to be 'good'.

I've picked out some Huntingdon tips for the evening, including a runner for the in-form Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole training alliance.

Huntingdon Tips

  • 18:10 - Therapist @ 1/1
  • 19:40 - Planet Legend @ 3/1
  • 20:10 - Bread And Butter @ 9/4

18:10 - Therapist @ 1/1

Nicky Henderson has put the memories of a bitter disappointment at Cheltenham in the rear-view mirror and the Seven Barrows supremo is now well back on track, coming into this meeting boasting a 21 per cent strike-rate across recent weeks.

He's got just one runner on the card and THERAPIST should make it a winning evening for the trainer.

The filly notched her opening hurdles win at Southwell a fortnight ago on fourth start/handicap bow. She was patiently ridden by Paul O'Brien and came through strongly to win going away in that contest over 2m on good ground.

She steps out of novice company now and is raised 7lb, but she gets some handy allowances taking on these older rivals and can back up her winning effort.

19:40 - Planet Legend @ 3/1

Recent weeks have been good to the new alliance of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, as they face into a first summer under their dual license.

Traditionally, the summer months have been good to the Urloxhey Stables-based yard and recent weeks suggest it will be a similar story this term.

The yard are currently operating at a strike-rate in excess of 25 per-cent, with 12 winners from 47 starters since mid-April.

They have just a single runner on the Huntingdon card as PLANET LEGEND goes for glory in the My Pension Expert Handicap Hurdle over 3m1f.

The Galileo gelding won his maiden hurdle over 2m here in January last year and would score again at Kelso (2m, good to soft) in March.

He had a couple of all-weather spins to blow off any cobwebs at the turn of the year and was back over jumps at Ludlow last month.

His first crack at the three-mile trip saw him coming back to his best with a close second behind Porter In The Park, denied only on the nod despite conceding a chunk of weight to the winner.

A 3lb rise looks fair and Charlie Hammond's partner should be capable of defying this mark.

20:10 - Bread And Butter @ 9/4

The Olly Murphy-trained BREAD AND BUTTER was well supported in the market last month at Taunton and duly ran a much-improved race back from a few months off.

He finished third in that 2m3 good-ground Class 4 contest and might have done even better had he jumped the fourth last with more fluency.

A mistake there put him under pressure and he was unable to get back on terms. He's racing off the same mark now and will have a useful ally in talented 10lb claimer Lewis Saunders on his back. An overdue first win on British soil is entirely possible.
