Great yarmouth racecourse

There are four flat meetings in Britain on Tuesday, accompanied by a couple of meetings in Ireland - including a jumps card at Wexford.

I've picked out a handful of horse racing tips for the day, featuring a gelding going for back-to-back renewals of Yarmouth’s opener.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, August 7

  • 15:40 Pontefract - Casilli @ 13/2
  • 17:40 Yarmouth - Sir Joseph Swan @ 11/2
  • 20:55 Kempton - Alpine Stroll @ 17/2

15:40 Pontefract - Casilli @ 13/2

Earlier in the day over at Pontefract, there are a few reasons to think CASILLI will go well.

She shaped like she needed the run on her reappearance but she’s now a long way below her last winning mark and unlike some of her rivals, she handles soft ground, which could be key given that there’s plenty of rain in the area throughout Tuesday.

Furthermore, she should get a quick pace to aim, a key factor to her showing her best form and a stiff mile here should be ideal.

17:40 Yarmouth - Sir Joseph Swan @ 11/2

Good amateur jockeys are often worth their weight in gold in contests confined to amateurs and Brodie Hampson is one of those with a reasonable strike-rate in Yarmouth’s opener.

She’s won the last two renewals of this race for trainer Archie Watson and SIR JOSEPH SWAN is bidding to land back-to-back renewals after winning this race from a 6lb higher mark 12 months ago.

The subsequent losing run is a slight concern, but Sir Joseph Swan showed signs of a revival at Doncaster last month when fourth and he got an uncontested lead in this race last season, something that could be on the cards once again with no other obvious front runners in the line-up.

Yarmouth’s round course often lends itself to those that race prominently and quick ground will suit this gelding who recorded some of his best runs on good-to-firm.

The trip is also ideal and he ought to go well for a yard that have been amongst the winners in recent months.

Today's Horse Races

20:55 Kempton - Alpine Stroll @ 17/2

Kempton’s London Series throws up some competitive handicaps and the finale on their evening card, a stayers’ qualifier, is one of the better betting heats on the Kempton card.

Michael Wigham’s yard are running at a 20% strike-rate in recent weeks and his runner ALPINE STROLL is possibly the most interesting contender.

He got his head back in front when allowed to make all over a mile and four furlongs at Salisbury last month and he’s got even better form over further, so should remain competitive back up in trip.

A 3lb rise from the assessor looks on the lenient side and he might be hard to peg back with a handy draw in stall four.

Warmonger has to be the main threat to the selection in his hat-trick bid for Sir Mark Prescott, but he’s unlikely to represent any value given the yard’s reputation with these types.
