Three of the five meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday are on the all-weather - including Kempton, which is the venue for all three of our tips.

Amongst them is a Simon & Ed Crisford charge who has previous on the AW.

Wednesday Racing Tips

  • 16:55 Kempton - Free As A Bird e/w @ 22/1
  • 18:30 Kempton - Throubi @ 2/1
  • 19:30 Kempton - Positive Impact @ 5/2

16:55 Kempton - Free As A Bird e/w @ 22/1

The Ed Walker-trained Free As A Bird is making her handicap debut from a mark of 66 in the 6f nursery at Kempton.

Walker is 6-34 with his runners in such races at Kempton and it is encouraging that the daughter of Showcasing will be receiving upwards of 6lb from her six opponents as she likely attempts to get away from her field from a fair draw in stall four.

The selection attempted to make all over this 6f trip in a Newcastle maiden on her latest start and is open to improvement on the 66 Racing Post Rating she achieved in finishing third on her third start.

Her Topspeed figure of 60 suggests she can run fast enough to exploit her opening mark on this surface, and she may prove difficult to peg back, if getting into a galloping rhythm on the front-end.

At the prices, and with Betfred paying 3 places, this one is advised each-way.

18:30 Kempton - Throubi @ 2/1

Lastly, Throubi makes plenty of appeal in the Class 5 1m fillies' novice contest at Kempton.

One of her main rivals is penalised for a course-and-distance success, and that makes Twirling vulnerable to an improver like Throubi, who is representing James Fanshawe, a trainer worth noting with his runners on this course.

The daughter of Teofilo has some strong juvenile turf form in the context of this contest, but more crucially she was an eyecatcher when fifth over this course-and-distance on her AW debut after a break last month, and her dam was a useful performer on the AW.

19:30 Kempton - Positive Impact @ 5/2

Positive Impact, representing Simon and Ed Crisford, can safely be considered the now horse in the 1m Listed Hyde Stakes from Kempton, in that he has the best piece of recent form on Polytrack and he is taken to follow up.

The son of Shamardal is 1-11 on turf and 2-3 on synthetic surfaces.

In September 2022, he progressed markedly to run out a comfortable winner of a Class 2 handicap over this course-and-distance on standard to slow Polytrack from a prominent pitch throughout despite leaving a wide draw.

In fact, his only defeat on the AW came on the dirt at Meydan in February which didn't seem to suit.

Positive Impact returned to action in the summer on turf, but it wasn't until he rocked up at Chelmsford last month that he showed what he is really made of, winning readily from the front by over three lengths.

The selection is drawn well in stall one, providing he gets going alertly as is usually the case on this surface and a reproduction of the latest 109 Racing Post Rating registered at Chelmsford would set a good standard without factoring in some potential progression on his second start at Kempton.

The Crisfords have a 24% strike-rate on this course and their string continues to perform well this late in the year.
