Flat Horse Racing

There are four flat cards and three jumps meetings to enjoy in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday. First off is Beverley before they go at Tipperary, Newton Abbot, Hamilton, Wexford, Kempton and Cartmel.

Among Wednesday's racing tips is one for Richard Hughes who went close on her recent seasonal return and remains unexposed.

Wednesday's Racing Tips

  • 15:50 Hamilton - Contacto @ 5/6
  • 16:33 Tipperary - Ephesus @ 6/4
  • 20:12 Kempton - Fair Angellica @ 5/1

15:50 Hamilton - Contacto @ 5/6

CONTACTO might be up four pounds for finishing second at Chester last time, but that was a strong race and this three-year-old can go a place better in the 1m4f handicap at Hamilton.

The winner of that contest on the Roodee recorded an eased-down success back at that course last weekend, while the fourth and sixth were first and second in a Redcar handicap on Wednesday.

Contacto pulled well clear of those two rivals and is sure to be rated higher than a mark of 79, having only contested two handicaps. The son of Study Man was an impressive seven-length scorer on soft ground before the Chester run, so won’t mind an ease underfoot at Hamilton, suggesting he can land a trappy contest.

16:33 Tipperary - Ephesus @ 6/4

Aidan O’Brien has EPHESUS entered in the King Edward VII Stakes and the son of Galileo can book his ticket for the royal meeting by bagging the 1m4f maiden at Tipperary.

Ephesus sets the standard on Racing Post Ratings and Topspeed by virtue of his second-placed finish to Mina Rashid on quick ground at Chester. He helped force a strong pace there and still had enough in the tank to fend off one-time Derby entry My Hampstead, only giving best to the more patiently ridden Mina Rashid.

An eyecatcher behind impressive York-winning stablemate London City at Dundalk on his debut in April, Ephesus should have too much for these if handling the slower terrain at Tipperary. There is plenty more progress to come from him.

20:12 Kempton - Fair Angellica @ 5/1

Richard Hughes’ horses have raised their game this season and FAIR ANGELLICA can register another success for the Lambourn stable in the 7f fillies’ handicap at Kempton.

Fair Angellica was placed to excellent effect as a two-year-old to end the campaign unbeaten, with all-weather successes in a maiden at this track and novice at Chelmsford before bagging a strong soft-ground handicap at Newmarket.

While surrendering her undefeated status at Goodwood on her return, she still made a race of it by getting within a length of Mission To Moon, who is a bit of a titan on soft ground.

There is little reason why Fair Angellica won’t improve with that outing behind her and only four starts to her name. She could be one for a good Royal Ascot handicap and her wide draw isn’t an issue as she enjoys being held up.
