Listowel jumps

Wednesday's racing features five meetings across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Perth before they go to Redcar, Listowel for Day 4 of the Harvest Festival, Goodwood and an evening meeting at Kempton Park.

Among our horse racing tips for Wednesday is one for trainer Gavin Cromwell who was strong in the betting for the Galway Plate last time but his jumping let him down on the day. The fences at Listowel should be less testing and he has every chance.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, September 25

  • 14:00 Listowel - Sea Of Sands @ 15/8
  • 15:45 Listowel - Dorans Law e/w @ 14/1
  • 16:20 Listowel - Perceval Legallois @ 13/2

14:00 Listowel - Sea Of Sands @ 15/8

We're going to focus on a cracking card at Listowel and opening proceedings is an interesting 2m maiden hurdle where Willie Mullins' SEA THE SANDS can hopefully get punters off to the perfect start.

This son of Sea The Stars is having his first run for the yard and he has been off the track for 776 days so he comes with obvious risks attached, but the yard is expecting a big run.

Formerly trained in Germany, he was last seen finishing fifth in a Deauville claimer, but he is a German Group 3 winner on the Flat and contested the Group 1 Preis Von Europa in 2021, a race subsequent Arc winner Alpinista won.

Interestingly, Sea Of Sands holds a Cesarewitch entry at Newmarket next month so there's every chance he has been doing good work at home. He should be up to winning an average maiden.

15:45 Listowel - Dorans Law e/w @ 14/1

Things didn't work out for DORANS LAW when trained by Michael Hourigan, but the son of Champs Elysees has made a positive impact for Philip Rothwell and he can feature in the 3m handicap hurdle.

He had his first start for Rothwell in a 3m2f handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe last month where he won with a lot of authority but he failed to handle the quick turnaround at Killarney from a 7lb higher mark and paid the price for a few sloppy jumping errors.

Talented 7lb claimer Tiernan Power Roche takes over now and that brings him down to his Ballinrobe-winning mark. Dorans Law has had a month off and there's every chance he can bounce back to form and at least make the frame.

This is an Extra Place Race, with five on offer instead of four at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

16:20 Listowel - Perceval Legallois @ 13/2

There are many in with chances in the feature 3m Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase, including 2022 winner Busselton and Willie Mullins' Horantzau D'airy, but Gavin Cromwell's PERCEVAL LEGALLOIS gets the vote.

Owned by JP McManus, he saw off Neveradullmoment in a Galway beginners' chase last October. That horse went on to win twice at the Galway festival this year.

The selection was unlucky in a Grade 3 handicap chase at Leopardstown in February as he crashed out at the last when there with every chance, before finishing second in a Listed handicap chase at Punchestown.

Sent off favourite for the Galway Plate after a break, his jumping let him down on the day but he rallied all the way to the line and finished eighth, beaten 10 lengths. This step up in trip will suit and he should strip fitter now.
