Catterick races

Two of the three meetings across Britain on Wednesday are on the all-weather. Just after noon the action begins on Lingfield’s Polytrack, and a jumps meeting from Catterick starts about 40 minutes later.

The evening all-weather fixture is from Kempton. Among our three Wednesday selections is an eight-year-old chaser returning from a break at Catterick.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, January 22

  • 14:08 Catterick - Batman For Ever @ 9/2
  • 15:08 Catterick - Get A Superstar @ 7/2
  • 15:38 Catterick - Belle Na Bann each-way @ 16/1

14:08 Catterick - Batman For Ever @ 9/2

BATMAN FOR EVER is worth backing when he returns from a break to contest the 11-runner Class 5 extended 3m1f handicap chase from Catterick on Wednesday afternoon, representing Stuart Coltherd, with Sam Coltherd continuing in the saddle.

He won one of his two chase starts in France a few years back, achieving a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 120 when second at Compiegne in October 2021.

He has had a stuttering British career ever since, but, following a break, he ran on well to land a 3m point on good ground at Overton in April, and he joined Coltherd shortly afterwards in a bid to make up for lost time under rules.

The selection produced one of his best British efforts when keeping on into an about seven-length third of 13 in a similar contest at Uttoxeter in June on good ground.

The slightly longer trip from a workable mark of 88 should suit, as too should the drying good to soft, good in places ground, with no material rain forecast in the run-up to post time.

The Jukebox Jury gelding is still only an eight-year-old, so the time to tap into that French back-class is now, on his sixth chasing start over regulation fences.

Betfred will return your stake (up to £10) as a free bet if your selection in this race finishes 2nd.

15:08 Catterick - Get A Superstar @ 7/2

GET A SUPERSTAR has decent winning claims when contesting the 10-runner Class 5 extended 2m3f novice handicap chase from Catterick, representing the training partnership of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.

The seven-year-old features off a mark of 92, yet he achieved an RPR of 105 when second in a Carlisle bumper in October 2023.

He also performed with real encouragement on his debut over regulation fences when reaching about a five-length third of eight in a better course-and-distance handicap chase on a decent surface just after Christmas.

The handicapper saw fit to drop him 2lb on official ratings for that effort, but his 96 RPR is going in the other direction, and a reproduction of that latest effort may suffice.

15:38 Catterick - Belle Na Bann each-way @ 16/1

Finally, BELLE NA BANN has likeable each-way claims when contesting the 13-runner Class 5 2m handicap hurdle, representing Micky Hammond, who is far from a stranger to getting one well treated for a touch at this venue.

The selection took a step back in the right direction when an about 14-length second of five over this course and distance on New Year’s Day, under Wednesday’s 7lb-claiming jockey Joshua Thompson.

The nine-year-old is 4-20 racing left-handed, 4-21 in this grade, and goes well on this course and at this time of year.

A winning mark of 80 is exploitable once again, with two of his four wins having come on officially good ground.

This is an Extra Place Race, with 4 places available instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

15:38 Catterick - Each-way (1/5 - 4 places) Belle Na Bann
