Warwick racecourse

There are six midweek meetings across Britain and Ireland, with a mix of jumps, Flat and all-weather fare taking place.

The National Hunt card is from Warwick alongside Flat racing on turf from Chepstow, Ayr, Gowran Park and Brighton, while they go on the Polytrack at Kempton. Below are my horse racing tips for Wednesday from across the cards.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, May 21

  • 15:10 Warwick – Cusano @ 3/1
  • 15:40 Warwick – Pride Of Paris @ 11/8
  • 16:42 Ayr – Leap Day @ 11/2

15:10 Warwick – Cusano @ 3/1

The Logicor Warwickshire Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle at Warwick looks a decent opportunity for Jonjo O'Neill's recent Market Rasen second Rukaana to go a place better. The four-year-old looked a touch unlucky in that race and should go well here.

A solid alternative to the forecast favourite is CUSANO for Dan and Harry Skelton. The gelded son of Harry Angel wasn't necessarily bred for this discipline but he has shown promise in hurdles starts at the likes of Huntingdon and Worcester last summer.

He was back from 222 days off and had undergone a wind operation prior to finishing second at Plumpton (2m, good) last month on his third start in handicap company.

He was no match for the winner there but ran well and should be sharper for it. He's dropping in grade now and can make his mark for a trainer in blistering form with a strike-rate of 42 per-cent from more than 30 runners across recent weeks.

15:10 Warwick - Winner Cusano

15:40 Warwick – Pride Of Paris @ 11/8

PRIDE OF PARIS moved like the best horse in a race at Uttoxeter (3m, good) 18 days ago only to be foiled late on.

The Champs Elysees gelding was having just his third start after joining the Harry Derham yard and it was also just a third time jumping fences.

Sporting first-time cheekpieces, Paul O'Brien's partner was denied a neck at the line when conceding lumps of weight to the front-running winner Side Stepper.

He may not have been ideally suited by the low sun in that race causing all the fences in the home straight to be omitted, with only eight of the advertised 18 fences jumped.

He has been nudged up 2lb in defeat but this more conventional race should offer him a shot at opening his account over fences.

15:40 Warwick - Winner Pride Of Paris

16:42 Ayr – Leap Day @ 11/2

Tim Easterby's LEAP DAY endured a torrid time last season on turf, failing to make an impact in five starts from April through to the start of July.

Connections pulled stumps from there and he returned to much better effect at Catterick (7f, good to firm) when filling the runner-up spot behind Capital Guarantee.

He went to Leicester under similar circumstances this month and once more settled for second after being ridden positively.

The form of both those races has already received several boosts. He is only 1lb higher in the ratings now and he'll be unfortunate should his improved form not pay dividends soon.

16:42 Ayr - Winner Leap Day

Odds correct at time of publishing.
