Haydock Park Racecourse

Two of the three meetings across the UK on Wednesday are over jumps as they race at Market Rasen and Haydock, before an evening all-weather card from Southwell.

In our Wednesday racing tips we have three fancies to follow, including a sprinter representing Anthony Brittain in the 5f Handicap on the all-weather at Southwell.

Wednesday Racing Tips

  • 15:00 Market Rasen - Anytrixwilldo @ 9/2
  • 15:15 Haydock - Ascending Lark @ 7/4
  • 18:00 Southwell - Rogue De Vega @ 9/1

15:00 Market Rasen - Anytrixwilldo @ 9/2

ANYTRIXWILLDO has had a four-month break since letting down favourite backers at Chepstow in November, and this observer feels those losses can be regained by punters if they keep the faith in the Class 4 extended 2m4f Maiden Hurdle at Market Rasen.

The six-year-old was an unconsidered 80/1 shot, with his stablemate Crebilly the tips-on favourite, when showing significant stamina potential in reaching fifth over 2m on his debut at Chepstow in February 2023. The second Crebilly ran second in Cheltenham's Plate Premier Handicap Chase last week.

Anytrixwilldo is going to really appreciate this step up to an intermediate trip.

The son of Flemensfirth is closely related to three 3m winners and has the ability to bounce back to form and get off the mark on this occasion.

15:15 Haydock - Ascending Lark @ 7/4

ASCENDING LARK can make a winning hurdling and stable debut, following a breathing operation, when representing Harry Derham in the Class 4 extended 1m7f Mares' Maiden Hurdle at Haydock.

The selection reached second on her debut in a Cork bumper for Liz Lalor in January 2023 and the winner Fancy Girl had beaten Dysart Enos into second in an Irish mares' maiden point 293 days earlier.

Ascending Lark then reached third behind Brighterdaysahead in a Gowran Park bumper which gives her a line of form with a couple of the classier mares' novices.

She is bred to appreciate this switch to hurdling and should prove hard to beat, if making a seamless transition.

18:00 Southwell - Rogue De Vega @ 9/1

ROGUE DE VEGA makes plenty of appeal in the Class 5 5f Handicap on the all-weather at Southwell on Wednesday evening.

He is representing Anthony Brittain, who is no stranger to success on this all-weather course, and all three of his runners at Newcastle on Monday evening performed with promise.

The Lope De Vega gelding is rated 62 now but was rated as high as 71 when fourth over 6f on this course in January.

He is one of only two four-year-olds in this field and is open to more progression than his six rivals after only 10 career starts.

The selection performed with credit when a close fourth over this 5f trip at Wolverhampton from a 2lb higher rating on his penultimate start last month. The gelding was drawn wide and suffered a troubled passage on that occasion and was far from disgraced at Newcastle more recently.

The return to Southwell on their flatter straight 5f course promises to suit and he can deliver the spoils in the closing stages.
