Horse Racing Tips: Approach can be first home at Tipperary

We’re well into the summer period now and as such, Flat racing dominates proceedings on Wednesday. Four of Britain and Ireland’s five meetings take place on the level and we even have some Listed action to look forward to.
Thirsk is first off and Worcester’s seven-race National Hunt card also takes place in the afternoon, while Tipperary, Epsom and Chepstow take us through the evening. Amongst our Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday is one for trainer Aidan O’Brien who should find this task much more manageable than his last two and a return to form is anticipated.
Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, July 2
- 17:05 Tipperary - Kansas @ 1/2
- 18:10 Tipperary - First Approach @ 11/4
- 19:23 Epsom - Far Above Dream @ 7/1

17:05 Tipperary - Kansas @ 1/2
The thrice-raced KANSAS is probably running out of chances now but he’s very much the one to beat at Tipperary and looks well set to get off the mark. Stablemates have got the better of him in every run so far but he’s Ballydoyle’s only representative this time around.
Beginning his career at Naas in May, First Approach came out on top that day and Kansas only just lost out for second, despite being far too keen in the early stages.
It was a similar story when upped to 6f at the Curragh next time but he was beaten less than a length back in second. Brussels came out on top that day and the third has boosted that form by winning since, which certainly bodes well.
Kansas had no answer for the impressive Warsaw last time out and that horse wasn’t disgraced in the Coventry Stakes, despite only finishing 10th. This is easily his best opportunity to date and there will be questions asked if he doesn’t win.

18:10 Tipperary - First Approach @ 11/4
Hopefully the previous selection can provide a solid boost to the form of FIRST APPROACH, who got off the mark nicely at Naas at the second time of asking. He didn’t get off to the best of starts on the day either and still managed to score by a little over a length.
The step up to 6f clearly didn’t suit in the Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh after that and it’s no surprise that he didn’t get anywhere near Albert Einstein that day. The son of No Nay Never did too much early on and his finishing effort was affected as a result.
This horse is better than he showed in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and the occasion probably got to him. Although this is also a Listed contest, it’s a much weaker one and the smaller field will also suit. It’s now or never for him and we’re expecting an improved effort.

19:23 Epsom - Far Above Dream @ 7/1
Three-year-olds get a 6lb allowance in this Epsom race and consequently, James Owen’s runner FAR ABOVE DREAM gets the nod. The very lightly raced gelding almost certainly has more to give in handicap company and is better than his most recent effort suggests.
He made three starts for Denis Hogan in Ireland, finishing second in a Cork maiden over the minimum trip in his final start for the yard. Clearly the switch to handicaps was the right move as he won very nicely on stable and handicap debut at Bath last month.
A 6lb rise is probably fair on that evidence but he struggled in a very competitive Class 2 at York recently. It’s possible that the return to a smaller field will help and the drop in grade definitely will. Further improvement could well be on the cards.
